The ability to play with Bosh. The ability to be on the greatest stage in the greatest city in the world.
We know you're not convinced. But can we all agree no one knows what Bron will do?
cry--Id like to get these players too. Weve scked too long. That being said Im a realist down to the bones. If Im Chris Bosh I want the 6 year max--even if its S+T. There is NO F way Im signing for 5 and less money when I can get 6 and 35mm more--especially with the new rules coming. I really never heard him give NY even one positive word--if I remember right it's negative.
Dont you think Miami with beasley + the 18th pick Houston with Hill a couple of other players and multiple fist round picks or Chicago with good young players and 1st round picks are a better s+T option?
Obviously, Chicago and Houston and many other teams can offer a better sign and trade for Bosh. BUT, how does Houston have ANY leverage with Toronto? They don't have the money to sign him outright. There's no way Houston has leverage - the best they could hope for is Bosh tells Toronto - "trade me to Houston or I go to NY..." also, I know he has said he doesn't want to play near his home.
Chicago is in the best position to get one max guy via sign and trade, but they'd have a hard time getting two.
I think the Knicks can actually make a strong case that Bosh can make up the extra money he'd lose out on from Toronto with the extra year in endorsement opportunities in NY. I'm hoping part of their pitch to Bron and Bosh is a sort of complete portfolio pitch. Bron and Bosh's total portfolio would take a huge leap forward in NY to the point where $30M over 6 years is an EASY number to top (and it wouldn't really be that big of a difference - once we have his Bird Rights we can extend him to 6 years and beyond. the true difference in that deal, especially if he opts out after 3 yrs here and extends for 3 more, is probably more like $5-10M - which NY opportunities and endorsements could instantly cover.)
I truly believe the economics are most favorable in NY. I think they can illustrate that example pretty clearly to both Bron and Bosh and show how they'd market them to the city, league and world and how the opportunities for them to export their own brand to the city, country, world get that much easier in NY.
The Economics are in NY's favor with any rational explanation of marketing opportunities and allowing the two max guys to re-sign after 3yrs - the lockout will not be as bad as previously feared because the league has rebounded significantly. The chance to build a unique legacy for a hungry fan base is uniquely and strongly in NY's favor. And, they have the ability that no one else has - to sign two max guys outright. I think those three factors are huge and make NY an appealing destination - provided Bosh and Bron want to play together.
That's the biggest "if" to me. If Bosh and Bron want to play together. Both guys have said so in the past... we wait and see if that's true over the next 7 weeks.
