Imagine a world where the luxury cap is in place but no limit on players salaries.
What do you salary figure Lebron would command in an open market?

No, actually what I'm saying is, there would be a team cap but no individual player limit.
So you could pay him $50M, but then how would you fill the rest of your team?

Well actually it is not. In soccer there is no Cap at all! So you can pay any player any amount of money and dont have to think about how much money is left to fill out the roster.
Yet if you look at it, the sallaries in soccer are still in comparisson to many american sports pretty low. Here it really is the market that sets the tone. Also most of the times the real big numbers is spent in form of buyouts between the clubs.
Completely different system.
Also the two teams playing for the Champions League title are arguably not the ones with the most expensive team or even the best individual players. Soccer is much less influenced by the skills of one single player. Not to take anything away from guys like Messi, Christiano Ronaldo, Rooney etc.
