the top players, for the most part, don't give two cares about loyalty to a club...

fans want winners...teams that pay...get them...by paying them...

that's how our beloved nyc baseball teams function...sorry to say...

why in the nba is their some kind of sanctity of dedication to a team?

romanticism is great...but crap teams that hardcore internet knick fans envy, like oak city...have owners that take advantage of the nba's system of benefiting teams that go for years without giving a care about winning...

they aren't so great as some say, imho...it's a matter of circumstance (i.e. i own a team that i want to move, and will move so eff local fans interest in winning...and lookie what we have here, top 5 draft picks for years, and a lil luck ;)!)...like how baseball and world soccer benefits the most wealthy owners...

in a perfect world this would not be the case...

maybe y'all should be socialists...

yet, this doesn't apply in any job most of us work in...

you don't "perform" or have the correct "value" the market will "correct" you..

if you are fortunate enough to be THAT good at your job, you can pick and choose situations...

shaq did, sabathia did, kaka did, cristano ronaldo did...

free the market for players...

nba players get screwed compared to baseball and world soccer/football.

u.s. football players are even worse off, imho.

no guaranteed contracts?

hahaha....

actually if you hate this idea...then do away with free-markets and capitalism...

otherwise, i am not aware of how one can justify criticism of one making the maximum level of $ for their work...if it was you, what would you say? perhaps, we are just projecting our envy of their social and economic status...

the fball and bball unions havent been the best at getting decent cba's that help with FA. when you hear nfl players signing those monster contracts its kinda funny that its reported as if the player is gonna see all that $$$. i understand why guys try to get as much guaranteed $$$ up front in fball. thats why i dont see guys taking less to move on this summer given the nba owners desire to give out less guaranteed $$$/contracts (in the future cba) among other player stifling items they are pushing. if the players actually let the retroactive alteration of contracts (if it gets that far in the negotiations)... wow...

if i was a true believer capitalist/immensely talented athlete i'd look to being a soccer player...there are so many more markets than any american sport. unless i had a talent that would corner a market that made doe...

effectively that's how baseball and american football function as success...

the u.s. is the richest nation in the world...for now...

if we weren't i would bet less players would care about being in it, and maybe it would be a less popular game...

that's why some benefit from those sports...but notice how basketball is easily the most international game we have...in terms of % of players not from u.s./ex-u.s. colonies/u.s. sphere's of influence...which, interestingly, seems to be why some hate it, or players that seem to represent "euros" or other traditional non-american dominant forms of the game...

i think it has contributed to the evolvement of the game, actually.

before jackie robinson came to baseball, the game lacked several valuable elements...basketball is evolving, imho, as a result of non-american players participation on the highest level..

to go back, baseball and football, however, are not liked outside of the western hemisphere...and that's being kind (other than asia for baseball).

if/when the u.s. falls off as being so powerful those sports are at risk for dying...

basketball has staying power...and i'm not saying it is a better "game"...

it's more like, i guarantee you will never get most europeans, africans, asians (which population-wise is FAR bigger than japan/taiwan/korea) to care about baseball anytime soon...or maybe ever

Soccer has 3 billion fans and 800 million people playing the game in all countries of the world.
Baseball and footbal are essentialy local US sports.
Hockey and bball are somewhere in the middle and both are losing the fan base in US and gaining elswhere.
Both became more and more boring every day. They need change..

Face it, soccer is also boring. If it wasn't, they wouldn't have had to jazz it up with ice and horses.

To a large extent, football (y'know, the game where you kick the ball...with your foot) has been ruined by the European Union. One main aspect of the EU is a legal requirement of free movement of labor between member states. That ruling was extended to football in the 80's. Prior to that, there was a requirement in all European football leagues that all but 3 of the 11 players on the pitch had to be from the country that the team is from. Under that scenario, it was more difficult for the top players to bounce around from one top club to the next, staying only a season or two.

For me anyway, it makes more sense to shout for a team most of whom come from where you come from. I still watch Champions League games (knockout stages anyway), but I don't really care which set of millionaires win it.

I think he meant hockey = soccer but on ICE

polo = soccer but on horses

i love soccer but it is kinda crazy how most teams have no shot at being anywhere near competitive. i kinda like the NFL more where teams can surprise you...like the Giants!

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please
