I am pretty sure rookie scale contracts are already predetermined. Should be less than 2 million for sure though.
the amount of the contract is predetermined. but if we've drafted and not yet signed the guy to his contract then will it count against the cap space? i'm assuming no, but am not positive.
i think they do count against cap.
ah. then any kind of deal like this wouild be an indication that donnie does not feel that he can score 2 maxes.
they do count against the cap.
but i don't buy that joe johnson is re-signing in atlanta. this is his last chance for a big score. and his last chance to go to a marquee team. if Atlanta bows out in round 2 or even the first round, is joe really going to want to stay on a team that hasn't done much in the playoffs?
i've always heard he feels he can be a bigger star - he won't accomplish that in atlanta. he might be a guy who comes to new york. especially because of the arn tellem connection. and the fact that joe knows mike d'antoni's system.
not sure i want joe johnson. but i feel he's the likeliest of the big guys to come here this summer. say we get joe johnson and bosh to both agree to max deals here:
PG Toney / Jimmer Fredette
SG Joe Johnson / Bill Walker
SF Wilson Chandler / Walker
PF Gallo / Jarvis Varnado
C Chris Bosh / Earl Barron
that's not a bad team at all. it's really not.
That squad isn't really much different from the present one that has won 30+- games the last two years. Your essentially swapping Bosh for Lee which is a little + and that is arguable.
Then you're having to live with Gallo at the 4 which is probably a -.
And then yes, its an upgrade to have Joe Johnson at the 2- but how much better is he than Al Harrington?
And MDA isn't going to live with TD as our PG.
Sorry, that line up wins 36-38 games max, and is to some degree capped out for the next five years. The next three years we have only picks that can be bought - typically late first rounders and the MLE to use to improve the team.
