They like to use the words--Ill take the blame or we weren't that great tonight this cap space is for years to come

I'll use the words that Jim Calhoun used two weeks ago at 68 years old--"quite frankly I will never allow this **** that we saw this year to ever happen again"

How about some step and say this we have scked for 10 years and tonight was the end. There will be no more excuses or blame. We as an organization will not accept losing anymore and we will get players and coaches who reflect that. No job or position is safe or earned--everyone is on a day to day contract until they represent winning.

Day to day contracts. Yeah, that falls in live with the CBA alright.

Houston had to be bad to get Hakeem.
Chicago had to be bad to get Jordan.
Knicks had to be bad to get Ewing.
San Antonio had to be bad to get Duncan.
Cleveland had to be bad to get LeBron.
Denver had to be bad to get Melo.
Miami had to be bad to get Wade.
Suns had to be bad to get Nash.
Seattle/Oklahoma City had to be bad to get Durant.
Knicks had to be bad to get *insert name*

Notice a trend?

BRIGGS, I'm sick of the losing too but the difference between now and the Isiah era is that even though we are losing right now, we are still going forward by gaining a lot of flexibility to improve quickly. Walsh has made several mistakes in my opinion, but overall, I think it's hard to deny that we are moving in the right direction.

Someone is going to come in here and say "Yeah, well pretty much all those guys you listed were obtained through the draft."

Donnie is obviously trying it a different way. We can't say that it will/won't work because we obviously have never seen the franchise with the biggest stage go all in like this.

It's awfully risky but hell, let's see if it works.

Briggs- the reason they don't say that is Dolan is the owner and we are crap because he ultimately runs things.

I believe he gave Walsh the green light on trading hill and our picks.

And no one can say that because they are both gone next year if we see the same crap basketball.

I believe this is the best thing Dolan has done. Hiring Walsh and allowing him to go in this direction, which was very risky even from a butts in seats perspective, much more so from a franchise direction point of view. I think Walsh looked at what his owner wanted and did the best he could under the circumstances. Zeke tried the same thing, which is to win quickly, but it backfired and cost us an additional 2 years of losing. If Dolan had let Isiah tear it down and rebuild completely thru the draft, things may have been much better. Thing is that now DW had to take a dramatic and bold step to accomplish what Dolan wants. Which is to put together a team that fans will pay big bucks to see. DW not only wants to do that, but he wants to actually build a title contender. We all know that this isn't Dolan's top priority. Dolan only wants an exciting product that will fill the Garden and all those shinny new luxury boxes he's building. IF the team happens to win a title that's great, but that's not the most important thing to Dolan. Under those restraints DW has to find a way to get this team to the level of Title contender and it's not easy, but he's truly trying to do that. We have to wait and see what he does.

i think the predominant trend there is those teams all acquired their franchise star through the draft... there is only 1 example on this list where the team acquired their franchise star via free agency... the Knicks are attempting to follow the exception to the trend & set a brand new precedent, which is to build a championship contender with 2 free agent signings... we'll see if the plan works out, but if u want to follow trends then you can't be very optimistic.

Actually TMS - the suns got Nash through FA - but they also had Amare, and he came through the draft.

for what it's worth, MDA has officially put the onus of pressure on himself to deliver results next season... that is, if you put any value at all into what he actually says:

http://www.northjersey.com/sports/pro_sports/basketball/knicks/90556074_Garden_fans_surprisingly_patient.html

No discernible "Fire D'Antoni" chants have erupted, nor have many boos, despite some hideous home losses.

The Garden has been alive and far more positive than negative throughout most of another miserable Knicks' season. And tonight should produce more positive vibes with Dwyane Wade, one of the franchise's free agent targets in the summer, in town with the Heat to christen a back-to-back finish to the home portion of the schedule.

Washington, an even more dreadful team than the Knicks, turns out the lights Monday night, not exactly the most attractive opponent.

Yet, that hasn't seemed to matter during a season — despite a 28-51 won-lost record (including 17-22 at home) — in which the Knicks have produced 24 sellouts in their first 39 home games and entered the weekend fifth in the league in average attendance (19,487 with a 19,763 capacity).

"That's why they call it the greatest arena in the world," D'Antoni said Saturday following a brief practice. "There's a reason for that."

But after Wednesday's season finale in Toronto, D'Antoni, team president Donnie Walsh and the front office believe they need to pay back that support. They hope success comes with the summer's expected roster upheaval via the salary-cap room that's been the be-all and end-all of the past two seasons.

"We need to get there quickly because they've done their part," D'Antoni said. "Now we've got to do our part."

all i got to say is put up or shut up... sick of the words & the "we've got to do this & we've got to do that" stuff we've been hearing out of these coaches & players for the past several years... stop talking about it & DO IT!

true enough, but i think it's fair to say Nash was the engine that drove those teams... but you're right, they used their draft just like those other teams did to acquire a guy they could build around... whether Gallo turns out to be an Amare level prospect or not is yet to be determined, but he's not been the impact rookie Amare was when he came into the league, i think that's fair.

I'm actually thinking about some of the teams that recently tried to improve with cap room - trailblazers and pistons - and while they had second tier talent to choose from - in fact, part of the reason both teams added guys was their original team gave them up so they had nowhere else to go.

Hopefully, the talent and number of better players will be better- but if all we get is 'Ben Gordon', shoot me.

Pistons also invested hugely into re-upping Rip Hamilton to a big money extension as well along with supplementary talent like Charlie Villanueva & Jason Maxiell... so far they've had little success rebuilding that team using their cap space & are on currently on the hook for a ton of longterm salary with players you wouldn't really think can get them to where they're looking to get to... hopefully we don't repeat those same kinds of mistakes.

a "Stickey dyckride" sounds gross!

Briggy needs to up the stock tips again and for all I care he can have his own website!

Honestly, his stuff ain't much different than others. At least he is persistant, has a valid opinion and thought out.

Can't say I read all of it, but thats my choice.

Sebby I all ways read. I learn new words. "Dyckride" is my new favorite! Maybe make it a vanity plate on my car.

I think the thing that some people are mad at--including me is we give up a route to get better. We had the cap space. If things don't workout--Jordan Hill and two possibly high picks couldve been what you were looking for. We have no hedge if we are bad. I think in anything you do you try to keep a middle ground--I dont think the middle ground was kept here--it's either this works or were fcked.

One thing we don't know is how good Gallo will be. Let's remember that our own draft picks are still developing and could just as easily turn into the next star in this league. I for one haven't given up on any of them. Who said Gallo won't be the Next Dirk?

I think the position we are best at is the wing with Gallo and Chandler. Just me but if NO LBJ

Offer D Lee his 63-66mm over 6

Then offer Bosh Stoudemire and Boozer max 5 year contracts in that order.

Make sure we keep Baron and add one more 6-10++ guy who plays on the interior---that solidifies the frontcourt. You cant go in with a plan of filling the roster with SF and keeping the 5-1 and 6th man + bench weak.

This doesn't have to be a perfect team next yr! If there's no Lebron I don't expect DW to blow the cap all in one summer when he's got another FA market in 2011. There are a lot of possible scenarios. Teams will be calling to try to make deals knowing we have so much cap space. You'd be surprised at the teams out there looking to deal this summer.
I'll tell you one another thing I noticed about DW and MDA
