Remember when BRIGGS suggested giving J.R. Smith a 5yr $35mil contract?

Cap $55mil

Lux Tax $66mil

^^^^^^

This is what we're probably looking at this summer. It's best to operate under these parameters while considering what we're trying to accomplish for 2010.

I really want a shot-blocking presence..If I can't get a shot-blocker like Larry Sanders, Jarvis Varnado or Daniel Orton late in this draft, I like the idea of inviting UConn's Gavin Edwards to summer league.

And I like the idea of also inviting 6'6" Ohio State SG Jon Diebler to camp if he goes undrafted. He didn't have a good last game against Tennessee (the Vols overplayed him to the point where they took him right out of the game for the most part) but before that he was great for OSU. He's a pretty good all-around player with nice height and a lethal shooting stroke..

No I want to sign both to three year 1.5mm per contracts. That's three million dollars for two 7 footers one 24 one 28 and I feel highly comfortable both will far exceed those contracts. I would like Mahini on the SL team because I have a feeling he would shine like in a more open run system

I think Mahinmi is better than all of these guys and he has a couple of years of NBA experience albeit limited.

What we have learned in the last two weeks.
We need more than 1 6-11+ guy who can come in and play--I think we can get both of these guys @ 1.5mm per for 3 each--that's secures some cohesion[which I think is important to all teams] This is well below avg NBA player pay and there is a great chance that they would both give excellent pay vs production. If we got Chris Bosh and resigned David lee--we would have two 6-11 guys who can mix and match for D and fit in to our budget.

I dont think it's about getting two max FA. If we got 1 great frontcourt player--Bosh resigned Lee then concentrated $$$ on positions of need PG C 6th man and bench--we'll be good quickly.

Id bet MDA would take JR Smith for 5 years 25$--that's what I said in a NY minute

u don't think SA would match an offer like that for their young C? as for Barron, i love how he's been playing if u could land him to a contract like that it would be well worth the investment.

not too sure about that one... JR seems to fit the mold of the low discipline type player that MDA hates to babysit to me... he's a talented young kid no doubt but i have a feeling you'd run into problems between those 2 eventually.

Can you imagine if our GM gave Nate a BRIGGS suggested contract this past summer? Oh Wait where is Nate playing these days? Oh that's right he's not a Knick anymore....

I don't even have to think about it--he's am impact player off the bench who has played on very good teams. His value at 5mm per year is a bargain. He hasn't played as well this year as the last two years but nonetheless they get very nice value out of the player.

there's no doubt he's a nice player to have off the bench but i don't think he'd ever work w/our current head coach... what good is signing a guy like that if all that's going to happen is he ends up in the coach's doghouse & devalued?

Substitute babysit for mentor, coach and lead and I agree with you.

This guy is a sleeper--he's good when he gets his chance. They had a very strange relationship with Mahimini but anyone who happened to see him tonight understands what I am saying. He needs a chance and we have a space for a young 6-11 245 shotblocker for cheap$$$$
