do u think the Spurs will offer him more than a contract starting out at $9M in the first year? i think it's debateable at the very least, especially at his age... i think a 3 year deal starting at around $9M is about right for a player of his level personally... SA now has Richard Jefferson under contract for next season & they are an aging franchise... they might consider that amount of money prohibitive to hold onto Manu G this summer, at least that is the hope.
but if u can't sign Manu at $9M i would target Rudy Gay at the max for his salary tier & offer up Wilson & Curry in a sign & trade (instead of targetting Baron) & see if MEM would be amenable to that type of offer rather than lose him for nothing (if they're not willing to match the offer obviously)
after that u would have enough cap left over to sign guys like Luis Scola (rather than Drew Gooden) & enough still to sign a defensive specialist on a reasonable deal, perhaps someone like Raja Bell along with a perfect backup PG like Kyle Lowry
this would be an acceptable plan C or D option for me (assuming we'd already failed in our attempts to land the big names)... obviously not good enough to justify the all in trade but if we don't land the big names u gotta make the best of a bad situation, no?:
C - Marcus Camby $7M
PF - David Lee $10M
SF - Danilo Gallinari $3.3M
SG - Rudy Gay $12M (sign & trade for Wilson & Curry's expiring)
PG - Toney Douglas $1M
6 - Luis Scola $8.5M
7 - Kyle Lowry $5.6M
8 - Raja Bell $3M
9 - Bill Walker $850K
10 - 2nd round pick $650K
11 - 2nd round pick $650K
12 - minimum salary $450K
total payroll = $53M
