How does a coach who is 58-100 over the course of two years have a show? The guy is winning at a rate of less than 37% over the course of 2 years while making 12 million in the process. Every time I watch it he is showing tape of the high pick and roll and if he talks about defense it is always a clip of one of his players playing the passing lane and getting a steal never game planning or talking about adjustments made for a specific opponent. Watching D'Antoni answer softball questions asked by a company guy when so many of his faults have been exposed over the last two years is unbearable.

He has to earn that money somehow. It isnt like he is actually coaching.

I agree. If you don't watch game tapes, adjust for opponents, and only work on perfecting your offense there is not alot of coaching involved. I haven't heard reports about the length of Knicks practices but I know Grant Hill said that sometimes the Suns practiced as long as 20 minutes.

he's had trash to work with... that said, he's done a **** job. I have a feeling he's on the clock right now and if it doesn't get better pretty quick next season he gets the door.

Papabear Says

Well what is coaching about? Training and developing players. They are playing worse now then they did at the first half of the season. And he may have had trash to work with but hell my ticket price stayed the same.

Did Mike D'Antoni just get dumb when he made the move to NYC? No

How many games did you think that we'd win when the year started? Somewhere between 25 and 35

Did you think there'd be issues with players giving up since they're on their last year? Yup

Look, the fact that they didn't draft any of the PG's available doomed this team from the start. Might be the dumbest personnel move this team has made since the Camby trade. With Jennings, Beaubois, Lawson, Collison, Maynor or Teague this team would win ten more games than they will otherwise. If we'd drafted Holiday, we'd at least be building towards something.

That draft should have been like shooting fish in a barrel for us, but somehow we missed. You've got a PG centric offense, and we've bypassed the position for both of Mike's years here. You really can't make this stuff up.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

D'Antoni lost Nash when he came to the Knicks. D'Antoni has coached for four years in the NBA without Nash and he has won at a rate of about 35%. Four years for a coach is a significant body of work in my opinion.

Regardless who were GM and coach last 2 seasons they get paid for sucking.
Will they get paid for winning? Next 2 seasons will tell.

CrushALot, if we had Phil Jackson here, just how many games would you have expected us to win? I suppose there would have been no player coach conflicts too right?

Lenny Wilkins, Larry Brown and Mike D'Antoni pile up essentially the same win totals with what might as well have been the same cast and the conclusion is.... MikeD's a terrible coach, get him out of here!

Huh? That argument is lost on me.

I don't know if I would call it an argument. My point is that D'Antoni had tremendous success when he had Nash running his team. For the four years that he coached without Nash he has lost at an extremely high rate.

The Mike D'Antoni show is always good way to get upset. In his last show, he says in his system he doesn't believe in running set plays with players coming off screens or posting up!
