I've been calling for this kid for awhile now -- he's done a fantastic job in the NBDL this year running the show for the Austin Toros. He's young and has been showing that he has VERY GOOD overall skills for a PG. I remember him in college a little bit and I've watched quite a few archived Toro games recently -- no doubt in my mind he not only can play at the NBA level but EXCEL if given the opportunity...I've maintained for awhile now that we should've called this kid up and given him a look on a tryout basis -- it would've been the prudent thing for us to do before we attempted anything else (such as draft a PG or sign one in free agency). Toney Douglas has come along nicely but he's still gonna need another capable guy to split up the PG duties with next year. Well forget adding Jerrells as that guy now. Looks like he won't be going anywhere soon...Get a load of this: despite not officially being part of the Spurs organization, unbeknownst to me, San Antonio has agreed to pay this kid money at different intervals throughout the year to get him to stay with Austin (a Spurs affiliate) and continue to "develop in-house" down in the D-League. Apparently the most recent payment just came this past week (I believe the Spurs signed him for the rest of the year)..I haven't watched the Spurs play recently but I guess Parker's either back healthy or close to it. Even though they don't have any room in their rotation they obviously don't want this kid to get away. I gotta say man, I really admire the commitment & ingenuity the Spurs management has shown here - this may be the first time something like this has ever happened...First I've ever heard of anything like this anyway...I don't wanna gush too much about another team but the Spurs come across as real pioneers here -- I betcha this move starts a trend throughout the NBA now. It's makes for one hell of an investment -- grab the independent D-Leaguers you like & even if you don't have the room to call them up to the show, agree to pay them to stay away from other teams & to stay with your affiliate to continue developing. Ingenious. I know teams stash their own draft picks in the D-League from time to time but this isn't the same thing. Nice job by San Antonio -- they obviously think this kid's got a future and so do I. Jameer Nelson's the starting PG for the Southeast Division leading Orlando Magic, a team that went to the finals last year (and has the talent to go back if they ever got hot at the right time). Jerrells is basically the same player as Nelson, maybe better. There's nothing Nelson can do that this kid can't...
