I know this is going to be hugely contentious, but I simply don't see a future top 5 NBA player. He's a 2nd year player this year, the top man on his team. I hear people going on about him like he's up there with LeBron, Kobe, Wade and Carmelo and I simply don't see why. Nobody can argue with his freakish athleticism, there's no doubts there but he's not a great distributor, he can't shoot 3's (not won't, can't) he doesn't take the last second shot and he doesn't take over games when needed. 20-3-5 is nice and yes he'll be an all-star calibre player but I simply don't see what it is about his that cause people to say he's deserving of a max deal, a franchise player and one of the best. Maybe I'm missing something?

I'd still trade anyone on the roster for Derrick Rose.

perhaps Rose needs to work on his 3-pointer parabola.

I'm never gonna get over that one am I? Is it so much to ask for a glorious Allan Houston-esque rainbow arc, culminating in only the slightest rippling of net as the shot splashes sweetly through?

But back to Rose, I'm not argueing that he's better then anyone on our roster outside of maybe Lee AT THIS MOMENT (before anyone rips my head off), Im saying he's good but is he really great? Dunno, just seems like Rondo with less rebounds and many many more shot opportunities. And less distributing.

The bloom is off the Rose.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Derrick Rose desperately needs a scorer/outside shooter next to him. He was a different/more dominant player last year with Ben Gordon.

He's a 2nd year player. He's still young and has room for improvement like Gallo. It's up to him to improve.

A shot can be worked on. Just look at David Lee.

Rose doesn't get to the free throw line and doesn't shoot threes well - he's a really inefficient scorer and he doesn't seem to be the best passer. And he's not a good defender. But of course since he's not a Knick he's better than anyone we have...

So are you saying gallo is also top 5 in league potential or just saying rose needs work?
I am focusing on the main point of thread and that was top 5 player in the league.

I agree with firefly.

If you need a great player to be great you are not top 5.

Melo was top 5 in league before billups arrives.

I can not recall any top 5 player in the league blossoming after their 3rd year.

So the clock is ticking IMHO.

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

I think the only way you can really judge if Derrick Rose is superstar in waiting or just another player being touted by the media is by creating a formula in a sinusoidal graph.

What is his wingspan again?

I would say Steve Francis is a better comparison.

I think thats a really good call. Francis could really ball, but never had any decent bigs around him. Rose is only getting better

as a former terp, i wonder how steve would have progressed had he not gotten hurt. he seemed like a player who if he couldnt do more physically, he wasnt as effective. so in that sense, i hope rose isnt like steve.

GO TEAM VENTURE!!!!!
