Danilo in the post.

Here is the full breakdown of all the areas I feel Danilo has improved on. Shooting, posting up, driving, and cutting to the hole.

Nice analysis.

The video shows one of his biggest issues which is getting elevation after contact. The video also shows what I mentioned about him dribbling and having to pick up his dribble early.

Thanks guys. Gallo is improving. He just has to improve on his midrange game and foul line shooting this offseason.

Always good to see the clips and analysis. Some added lower body strength will do wonders for him. He should also hire McHale out to coach him on some post-up moves.

His foul shooting has puzzled me. Don't know if it is a fatigue issue, or that arm injury that has plagued him from time to time, but I expected him to be hitting them in the high 80's, at least.

After taking on Carmelo Anthony, Danilo Gallinari's physical play gets noticed by New York Knicks

BY Frank Isola
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

For years, the knock on European players was that they were soft. It probably started around the time Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were ganging up on Toni Kukoc.

The stereotype, regardless of how unfair it is, still exists today and in some ways Danilo Gallinari uses it to his advantage. The worst thing an opposing player can do is underestimate the Knicks' second-year forward from Milan because the only thing soft about Gallinari is his jump shot.

"I just thought he was a guy that just shoots the ball," Tracy McGrady said. "That's it. He'll stay outside and shoot. But he can play."

Gallinari made a believer out of McGrady and Denver's Carmelo Anthony after the 6-foot-10 forward scored 17 of his team-high 28 points in the third quarter of Tuesday's win over the Nuggets. Gallinari asked to guard Anthony, and in the decisive third quarter, the two players traded shots and words in a classic duel that had the Garden buzzing.

"That was like, '(forget) everybody else, it's me and you,' " McGrady said. "I haven't seen (Hedo) Turkoglu and Dirk (Nowitzki) do that. They play within the team concept. That was 'get me the ball and everybody move out of the way.' I was enjoying it."

Gallinari has always been one of the Knicks' more physically and mentally tough players. He'll play through pain, he's not afraid to take big shots and he won't back down from a challenge. In December, after the Clippers' Baron Davis hit Gallinari with an elbow, Gallinari returned the favor after grabbing a rebound. Davis looked stunned.

"I know I've always been tested because I'm young," he said. "That's okay."

Gallinari, who was limited to just 28 games as a rookie due to a back injury that eventually required surgery, has been inconsistent this season. Three weeks ago, Mike D'Antoni criticized Gallinari for his lackluster play, but recently he's been one of the Knicks' most consistent players.

Gallinari's development is crucial for several reasons. He's one of the few Knicks under contract for next season, and his presence could either hurt or help the team recruit a significant free agent this summer. In November, when the Cavs made their one and only visit to the Garden this season, a LeBron James confidant pointed at Gallinari and said "LeBron wants to see how this kid does this year."

After the game, LeBron approached Gallinari to offer encouragement and advised him to make sure he stretches his back before every game. Jordan was never that chummy with Kukoc.

Eurothugs with stiff legs have no future in the NBA

man, if he can develop a consistent little 10 foot fadeaway, with a nice drop step and spin move in the post --- he'll start bustin' peoples asses for real.

Yeah. True. But I'm concerned about that tender lil back of his.

Big C yet another good piece ......

Love Gallo's game ...... Glad we have finally given him the ball enough to show off all his skills...

I really believe he could of played this way all year but out of respect for his teammates he deferred a lot
on offense.....

Think after the trades and new players settling in Gallo has taken it upon himself to ask for more....
On Defense and on offense.....

Also believe from watching the show that Gallo's role was to spread the floor for the pick and role.
Also all plays seemed to have Gallo planted on the 3 point line.... Coach says it... He does it!!

The coach must be finally asking more of him...... Only till now has he had 3 games in a row with 15 shot
attempts....

Having watched Gallo in Europe I have seen all these skills already...... Just really believe he is now
just starting to get his coach to let him show it...

I know Gallo has had off games...... But as someone who has played ball if you believe you are good and
only get the ball but so often as a player you tend to over try...... I think when Dudu and Nate were here
Gallo felt under utilized .... Fazed out it looked like to me personally..... But he never Bitcehd and stayed
focused on D

Big kudos to Gallo and how he is progressing....... Kudos to you too Big C ... Keep up the good work!!

KNICKS on the way UP!!!

I wanna see him come out and have a big game tonight against Phoenix (that Phoenix team doesn't play much defense -- win or lose, I wanna see him continue to get after it just like he does at the Garden). I wanna see him follow up some of these big-output home games with some quality play on the road now.

I've been up and down (now up again) with this kid right from the beginning and rightly so --- First I thought it was ridiculous when people closed the book on him before he even got here and then after he got hurt in summer league. Utterly ridiculous and way too premature -- he was an unknown quantity back then & impossible to judge at this level. Then this year, after he was pronounced fully healthy, he came out and played very tentative. All he did early on was shoot 3s which I didn't care for. I really thought the lack of a versatile offensive game was a big problem. I wanted to see more (we needed to see more)...Then he hit a little bit of a wall but now he's appeared to have turned the corner -- really making a concerted effort to drive the ball and show a little post up here & there (which is good because he's crafty down there). Taking the huge challenge against Melo the other night head on and not backing down really showed me a ton as well...It's good to see. Now keep it up. NO LET DOWN TONIGHT AT PHOENIX!!! He appears to play his best ball at home by far which is good..I'm glad he's comfortable at the Garden - he plays half his games there. Now I wanna see that type of fury & production on the road. Overall I like what I see, esp. recently..He's coming along...

I think MDA said it best....

"I think he's confident, he's just trying to find his way to being a very good player in this league," D'Antoni said of Gallinari. "His biggest thing right now is to be able to take the challenge of the game, not the situation. [He has to ask himself] 'How can I be a dominant player, and repeat that 82 times?' Now I know that's not realistic, but that's what has to be the mindset.

"Not, 'OK, it's the last four minutes, I'm into the game,' or 'I've got Carmelo in front of me so I've got to go,' " D'Antoni continued. "No, you've got to go because, Jump Ball. That's his next step and he'll get that."

I love that last quote. It's jump ball, time to dominate.
