Watching NBA TV last night Ira Winderman mentioned Miami is talking up Beasley to use him in a S&T this summer for Bosh or Amare. These are both guys who have stated they want max years on their new deals. I bring this up because when you have a team offering the #1 pick in a sign and trade our guys look like dog ****. Now Lee has value but working out a S&T with him will be complicated and may not even be an option.

Only guys we have on a rookie contracts who are maybe worth anything in a S&T are Chandler and Gallinari. Gallinari isn't going anywhere so that leaves Chandler. Chandler will be a RFA summer 2011 so any team that takes him will have to be ready to spend on him the next summer. Now obviously Walsh didnt like our chances of getting a S&T completed because he traded Jefferies(expiring) and Hill(rookie deal) who could have been potential sign and trade candidates.

At the end of the day these guys play for money. I seriously question who would forgo a 6th contract year with the new CBA possibly limiting salary and/or years. 15+ million is alot of money. Now if you assume most of the big guys will go in S&T's you have to add a few more teams as 2010 candidates. Mainly the Lakers, Rockets, and Detroit who were already linked to Toronto, Phoenix, and Utah respectively.

I think Walsh knew this before making the trade so the trade was more to free up space to keep our own guys AND add a few pieces.

Or to be a dumping ground for teams looking to move salary for 2011 or 2012 splash.

our best chance to land talent this summer was if we had assets to offer up in sign & trades... we chose to go the cap space route... unless Donnie has something worked out under the table, then other teams will own the advantage, including Houston who can now use the assets we gave them along with some of their good young talent to acquire a major player or 2 this summer, & if Yao Ming is coming back next year they have a franchise C to offer any player to want to play with... right now our only advantage is the market we play in.

If Houston does that and we don't get Bron, then I will not watch the Knicks anymore. Not that it will be too painful, but it's just a lost cause... I get the message (finally).

I think our best chance to land a talented player is a team looking to just shed salary in exchange for Curry and we would have to include Chandler more than likely.

i'm skeptical to the type of talent u could possibly target using Curry's expiring... it took us dumping a #8 lottery drafted rook & rights to 2 future 1st round picks just to unload Fishlips & he was at least able to play some minutes & stay healthy... IMO Curry's contract will be almost untradeable unless we're willing to take back albatross contracts that teams are looking to dump like Baron Davis, Elton Brand, Rashard Lewis or Gilbert Arenas... i don't think we'd be able to get young up & coming stars that we'd want to build around... even if we miss out on the bigname FA's this summer, we'd probably be better off just signing 2nd & 3rd tier FA's to reasonable contracts & keeping our flexibility to make moves in 2011... not saying i'd be happy if we did that cuz i'd be hugely disappointed if we missed out on Lebron, Wade & Bosh this summer, but we can't act irresponsibly w/our cap even if we fail this summer in attracting bigname FA's & dig ourselves back into the hole we just climbed out of.

if we're going to look to use Wilson as a trade chip, we should only do so for the rights to Rubio or another young player that can help form the nucleus we build around.

We could trade for a player and take back more salary than we send out. I say this because I keep thinking that we could end up with Dalembert if the sixers wanted to dump him. Of course, you do need to have something to send out, and yea, we pretty much have squat.

And no, I don't think we'll get Dalembert- unless he suddenly develops a 3pt shot this summer.

We are also the only team who can offer 2 max contracts..... That is huge!!

We also have the Garden ..... the Most Historic arena in the game today!! And that wont change for a long time!

Lebron is a student of the Game!!..... He knows he will never get Cleveland to be as storied a franchise as the Knicks
nor would it matter if he did...... Lebron is coming to NY my friend!!

You wont be bothered by The Don's moves come this time next year!!

KNICKS on the way UP!!!

why is MSG the most historic arena in the game when we've only celebrated 2 championships there & that occurred about 30 years ago? this arena has been the scene of more franchise embarassments in the past decade than it has good moments.

It ain't the Arena - it's the City. Players have more potential to make Money here. I was just in Denver nice city really liked it - but if you're an entertainer - you want a big stage and NY is a big stage. Cities like Denver will never offer the opportunities of NY.

yeah i already mentioned earlier that our only real advantage this summer is the market we play in... teams that are about to lose their top players will look to get a sign & trade worked out to benefit all parties... letting their franchise players walk for nothing is the last thing they want to happen... & leaving a ton of money on the bargaining table isn't exactly heading the to do lists of many top name FA's this summer either.

I know we only won 2 championships but the GARDEN is way more then that!!

Some of the greatest games have been played here ...... Epic battles with so many teams!!

Celtics Bulls Indiana........ Not to mention the college games that have been played here....

Boxing History....... Its more then our lousy Knicks of this decade

Lebron as a Kid must remember Knicks Bulls..... Knicks Indiana
Knicks always were a huge show.....

Only in LA do more stars come out ..... Yet the Lakers already have their Star
This Summer the Knicks and the Garden get theirs too

i recognize the overall history of the arena but you said it was the most historic arena in the sport, which implies we've had more historic basketball moments there than any other, which just isn't true... sure, there's been great boxing matches here & the Rangers won a Stanley Cup in this building, but what's that got to do with why Lebron would come to NY? u really think that factors into his decision making process that Bruce Springsteen played at the Garden at one point? come on dude.

I hope I am wrong but I don't think free agents are going to see the Garden and Mike D'Antoni as big selling points. D'Antoni jokes with superstars like Melo during games like it is his destiny to coach them but the reality is guys that play at that level with that level of focus want a coach who isn't joking but is focused on his team and winning.

How many arenas have you been to TMS?

I mean come on...... You dont find the Garden as the most historic of all the arenas in the NBA?

No more Boston Garden that had some history.... Chicago has new arena..... LA...... and why?

To make more money...... Yet the Knicks make money anyway!!

Cause of the Garden ....... Our teams have sucked for ten years yet we still make top 5 money in the NBA

With a ****ty product!!..... Its cause of the Garden..... Any day can be more History...

That why we rooted for Kobe and Lebron last year..... Cause we are smart enough to understand that we were
witnessing more HISTORY in front of our eyes......

Thats why Kobe and Melo and Bron and Wade and any other star who comes here wants to shine on our floor...
Why?..... Part of History!!

Documentary about Reggie and the Knicks on ESPN.... Why? Neither team ever won it all!!

Neither team was the best of there time..... It was cause of the GARDEN and the life of it's still remaining
History.......

Clyde played here!!.... Reed played here.......King played here ... Ewing
Bird came here and played .... Magic Jordan Wilt Oscar Russell Hakeem Robinson and so many more

All the arenas are gone but the Mecca stands...... We have the most historic building in the league
and will only help recruit the stars....

The reason the talk everywhere is about Lebron is because he is the biggest star

And he needs the biggest stage......

You are now entering Madison Square Garden....... Welcome and enjoy the game!!

Do we really expect some of these guys to turn down an extra year of max salary to play in the Garden? Some of these guys would play in Siberia if you paid them enough money.

The NBA is a job for some of these guys. Think about this, I bet you Jermaine O'neal is glad he got that extra year at 20 million. If he had signed a shorter deal thinking he would just get resigned he would have been in for a rude awakening.
