Knicks may give Bell a ring

By MARC BERMAN

Last Updated: 5:10 PM, March 22, 2010

On the list of mid-range free agents who will pique the Knicks' interest is defensive guard Raja Bell, a former Sun and a coach Mike D'Antoni favorite.

There's a chance the Knicks could give Bell a late-season tryout. According to an Oakland Tribune report, the Warriors could waive Bell, who is recovering from left wrist surgery, because they need a roster spot. Bell probably wouldn't be healthy until the final four games.

Asked if he would consider it, team president Donnie Walsh told The Post, "If we did do something like that, it would be to show we liked him."

Walsh is close to Bell's agent, Herb Rudoy, and a summer match definitely looks to be in play if the Knicks still have some cap room. The Warriors, even if they waive him, also are interested in re-signing Bell, according to the report.

not sure what the point would be when we're trying to evaluate if Bill Walker & JR Giddens are guys we should hold onto this summer... sounds like typical Berman speculation to me

Not just Berman. ESPN reported it two days ago.

A favor to the agent perhaps?
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Giddens and Walker are under contract so they are here regardless.

Generally 34 year old guards dont excite me but Raja fits a major need. I would def sign him for next year to fill out the roster. Guy is still one of the best defensive players on the wing.

Guys are always talking about bringing in guys to teach our current players how to D. Bell can show them.

I'm not signing Raja at the expense of Lebron, Lee or any other big name guys but when we are talking about filling out the roster he's a perfect fit

Walker & Giddens have options & are still being evaluated... the article is talking about signing Bell for the last few games of this season to see if he's an option to sign this summer.

their options are like 800k and 1.1mm I think. Unless they are mental cases they will be back. Have to fill out the roster here. We know Walker will be back. He's shown enough. Giddens will be fine

Bell is the type of player everyone on this board would absolutely love.

He is a "no nonsense" player that plays quality defense and offensively has a pretty good shot from outside. Would have fit in very nicely with Ewing's Knicks during the 90s.

Would love to bring him to NY as I think he is the type of cheap role player that we should definitely take a chance on. Bell is the perfect type of player you would want to surround a LeBron James with. He doesn't need 20 shots to be effective and can definitely hit open jumpers. Raja's getting old but if he's healthy, I think he may even be possible candidate for a starting role next season depending on how things go.

Well, remember this is the media saying "The Knicks MAY take a look at Bell."

No where did I see the KNICKS saying WERE GOING TO LOOK AT BELL.

However, if we did? It's fine.

Giddens probably won't be back. House doesn't look like a fit. So maybe Bell ends up being the cheap vet.

All in all I think it's media BS. If it isn't we still need to bring in someone for next season. So why not have it be Bell instead of House or Giddens?

No biggie.

i agree they're both likely gonna be back but why steal any of their playing time to sign Raja Bell for the last 10 games of the season? i'm fine with bringing Raja in on a veteran's minimum contract this summer if nothing else but be a mentor to those guys, but if we're going to sign anyone for the last few games this year, we need to sign a frontcourt player that can block some shots... right now we're seriously small in the frontcourt with Lee & Harrington playing out of the 5 spot.
