I know there are mixed reviews about how smart it would be to sign johnson, most think it's not a smart idea at all, but i think its the best idea out there. I think he is more likely to lock up early while the other top FAs shop around a bit. Johnson is the unique player that can compliment any of the other FAs on the market. I think he's the ultimate fallback option and if we get him we still have room for another player or we can wait til the following summer. I also think LeBron is more likely to come with johnson on the roster early on. Unless lebron signs early and says to bring in bosh or someone else with him, i think you get johnson early, who is still a top 20 player and in his prime, and figure out the rest as you go. My new dream scenario is to get lebron and johnson, then resign walker and sign someone like gooden for the vet exception, then make a trade like chandler and curry for tyson chandler.

C Chandler
PF James
SF Gallo
SG Johnson
PG Douglas
6th Walker
7th Gooden
8th 2nd round pick

Most of you might call me crazy, but i have been very into the idea of getting johnson for a long time. He's not the answer by myself, but he's a good start.

You must be confused. Walsh has already signed Joe Johnson, and we're all up in arms about it!

what on earth would be the point in signing option D type players to early contracts before seeing if you can land the better options first? if we miss out on the top guys, Joe Johnson will be ready to sign... & if not, then no big loss, u can split the money you would otherwise have used on him to sign lower tier players that will bring more depth... Joe Johnson is not the type of player that u can build around anyway, he's a supplementary piece.

There was an ESPN article a while back saying JJ is going to fall off drastically in a year and had the stats to back it.

i would much rather sign guys like Scola & Manu to contracts over Joe Johnson this summer if we miss out on the big 3.

Anytime Donnie thinks he should give max money to Johnson he should think about Jalen. It's funny how Donnie got this rep in NY for being savvy with contracts yet it doesn't match his history.

why is there a general assumption that Donnie would give Max money to a dude like Johnson? Donnie has always stated that he is going to sign players to the correct type of contract.

I think the assumption is based on if the Knicks don't land Lebron and Wade. Like most GMs that have cap space and the expected need to do something. They overpay. It is naive to believe that Donnie will not be in a similar boat with his owner, coach and fanbase. Sometimes circumstances force your hand.

Quite honestly, I think signing Joe Johnson could be a debacle of gigantic proportions. To begin with, Johnson is overrated. He's not a particularly efficient scorer. More importantly, he's getting to that age where some SGs begin their very slow decline. He's certainly not going to get any better from here. But most important he's nowhere near a MAX player and that's what it's going to cost to get him. Signing and trading for good players for more than they were worth is how we got into this mess to begin with.

I'm glad someone understands that building a successful team is about about "value" and not just signing the best players at any price.

i didn't say that was my 1st preference... i said i would rather sign those guys than invest a max contract on someone like Joe Johnson... try to follow along.
