Even though MDA is the coach--you cant appease him 1-15.
but donnie didn't seem to have influence over him. mda-walsh seems destined to play out like mda-kerr.
has it really gotten that far between the Don and MDA?
not yet. but look what's happened. donnie recognizes how poor our interior defense is, so lands darko and jordan hill. mda ices darko very early on and hardly plays hill at all. meanwhile our interior D is horrible, we have no rebounding except for lee, and lee gets killed on D against all the 5's he's playing. donnie finally gives up and trades them both - they both start posting double-digit boards and multiple blocks. obviously they could have played and helped us - mda simply wouldn’t use them.
so now briggs is recommending another young big. how much more do you think donnie's gonna take if he gets mda more interior defensive help and mda won't use it? we already have the verbal tension through the press regarding the defensive assistant coach.
Donnie also wanted to play Gallo and Chandler big minutes and trade jefferies desperately. He also wanted to change the culture of the team - getting rid of all of Isiah's malcontents and contracts. Do you reward players with minutes that have not earned it? What does that do to long term development of rookies and young player etc? What message does that provide the team.
I thought Hill and Douglas should have played more this season. From what we have heard about Darko re training camp and what we know about him from previous teams, are we really insisting that Darko should be played just cause he puts up stats on a crappy Minny team? Do you cut Lee's minutes to play Darko? What does that do to his phychie?
I have already stated that I would have liked to have seen Hill and Douglas play more (10 minutes a game is not much to ask and wouldn't have effected others), but walk with me through this argument: will not playing in their first season really hurt the player long term IF in fact they are getting the necessary whatever off court? Was Lee's career or development hurt by Brown? Is there something to be said for seasoning a rookie on the bench for a little while? Douglas is going to play a few games less than Nash played his rookie season (and probably average more minutes). I am also considering the fact that he was a 2 guard for most of his collegiate play and looked utterly lost running the SL team and during the first games he played (he did well in a SG role).
