I will tell you--if the Magic want to save cap money and the Knicks are serious about wanting a 7 footer--this guy is probably the best 7 footer in waiting in the entire NBA. Are they going to pay 6+mm for a guy they use for less than 15 minutes? This guy can play--he's just not getting the minutes. We need a big guy--but will MDA do it? I don't think he would be for it. I also don't see the Magic just giving him away but that is a great deal of money for what they use him for and he is better than a 12-13 minute player. Maybe a deal where the agent says my client demands a trade?
I mean he's big active skilled he runs the floor for a big guy blocks a couple of shots etc he cans core but cant shoot the three:(

2 words... hell & no.

this guy is nowhere close to being the best 7 foot option out there for us this summer... this guy is a Euro version of Big Turd on the Atkins' diet... Big Turd Lite... actually Big Turd probably had a more refined low post game than this guy does... no thanks to this guy at the money he's making.

While we are going for the all Polish front court, lets add Lampe to the mix.

I saw Gortat in some recent game here- and if I recall, the Magic were up big- but he is active and he is big.

When he gets minutes, he does produce nice numbers.

I'm not sure you can add him at his salary for what he produces if we're adding a max player.

But he wouldn't be a bad addition. If you could start him at the five and slide Lee to the four- makes us stronger up front, covers up some of Lee's weaknesses.

But then we thought Darko would do that on a limited basis.

Maybe MDA doesn't like non-Italian Euros?

I don't think he's garbage. That's a little rough Seb..LOL! He's big and he can play a little but for that contract, forget it. Good possibility AJ Ogilvy or Artisom Parakhouski slip to us in the 2nd round -- if we really wanted a big guy like this we could draft either guy & basically get the same type of player, younger & possibly better and not be saddled with that type of contract..Better yet draft some backcourt help and invite Dwayne Jones to summer league (I'd call this guy up from the D-League right now if I were Walsh -- we have a roster spot available that opened up after we waived Brian Cardinal. I say they should fill it with the best D-Leaguer they can find and let's see what he's got. I really don't know what they're waiting for -- I'd be jumping at the bit to find out more about a guy like Dwayne Jones. He is just one of several guys I'd sign for the rest of the season if I were Walsh..6'11" 250 lb. center is putting up 17.2 ppg (over 60% from the field), 15.8 rpg (leads the D-League) and 1.8 blocks per game. Currently leading the NBDL in double-doubles with 35 - 11 more than the 2nd best guy who's a PG... Much better value than trading for Marcin Gortat..

bro, when u can find better options playing in the D-Leagues, that pretty much means the player in question is garbage.

I put a little more credence that Dallas gave him an MLE offer and Orlando matched. This guy can play and is held back by minutes. I bet he has a lot of respect in NBA circles. I mean those are two of the top 5 NBA franchises making a 35mm$ dollar decision.

i am willing to bet you whatever money i got that Jordan Hill would put up better numbers right now with similar minutes... in fact, he's already doing it & he's only 22 w/very little NBA experience... Gortat has 4 years on Hill & playing in his 3rd season in the NBA & he's still a limited role player who's putting up 4 & 4 in 13 mpg... & that's not just this season, it's his career averages as well... face it, this guy quite simply isn't that good... he will put up an occasional big game just like Fishlips did from time to time, but he is not good enough in any area to suggest he'd be even close to being worth the $35 million dollar investment the Magic put into him... so what that Dallas offered him the same? this guy made that contract based off a limited sample of games during the playoffs 1 year where he showed some flashes of ability just like Big Turd did during his playoff run with Seattle... in the end this guy will always be a limited role playing veteran because he's just not good enough to be a valid starting calibre C in the NBA... could he improve if forcefed minutes? i guess anyone could given the same circumstances, but how good will that team be in that scenario? not very good if u ask me... he's not worth that type of investment... LLE money type player at most IMO.

Good call Briggy, This guy is not an allstar center. You want a guy that can contribute without the ball. A big who can guard the position, block shots and run.

Give Dlee a back ended contract and this guy for the price of one Bosh is not so crazy.

We never going to compete without a few quality bigs. THis is one. Not the end all, not "the man", but a servicable big who is athletic.

I like Gortat. He's a good defensive player/rebounder who doesn't embarrass himself when the ball comes his way. He's worth $6m per year.
