If we were able to use Chandler the 2011 1 and a 2010 2 and cap space to acquire Andrew Bynum to play C moving Lee to pF and Gallo to SF--would you be happy with that starting frontline and use of cap space--a Chandler deal would be roughly 10mm to the cap+ Lee 9[6 60/62]--giving us 15+mm to spend on the backcourt

C- 7-1 280 Bynum
F Lee 6-9 240
F Gallo 6-11 240

how about you use the remaining $15 to add Peja and Collison from NO. That deal would save the Hornets over $15mm next year. Maybe you trade Giddens, Walker and your two 2nd rounders for Peja and Collison.

Then you have your PG of the future along $28mm in expiring contracts in Peja Curry.

NO does the trade because it sticks $15mm right into the owners pocket.

Then your team looks like
pg Collison
sg Peja
sf Gallo
pf Lee
c Bynum
bench: Douglas
Gonna need a couple of warm bodies there but your 6 rotation guys to start the year are damn good. You can use the expiring contracts for some help, or just let them come off the books and sign FAs

Can Bynum run the floor or is he a half court center? If he can channel his inner chief (Robert Parish) and be a trailer then yes.

Im more concerned with a good balanced team than 40 dash times. How fast was Kareem Abdul Jabbar with the showtime Lakers? I mean they did avg 110 pints per game. Good players are good players who will play good basketball.

briggs, i can't see the lakers giving up on bynum. is he falling out of favor with them or something? i could maybe see them doing a s&t with dlee for bynum, but otherwise i can't see the lakers biting on this one.

Well. I am more worried about him playing in the SSOL system that MDA will use. If he is not a good fit for this offense then why get him? A frontline of Bynum, Lee and Gallo would be great if you ran another offense. SSOL I am not sure.

That would be a good fit for the Lakers. Gasol, DLee, Artest frontline. That would be another championship run.

I think there is great opportunity to get Bynum IF they do not win. I think there would be a great chance they would break it up for a faster unit than playing 2 7 footers at once. Gasol and Bynum really are 5's. Lee is a true 4. We really need more size and balance--Im not worried about how fast players can or cannot get up and down. Teams that win championships usually start a 6-11+ C and also have 1-2 in reserve.

Think about this EVERY single team that won the NBA champisonship had atleast one prominent big man and 95% of them were over 6-11. What does that say? No big man--no rings.

The Lakers have not invested a first round draft selection, tutorials with Kareem, the patience with his injuries, the practice sessions and the extra weight training guidance to simply get rid of 7' center Andrew Bynum.

Centers are a rare and valuable commodity.

a championship team does not make changes for the sake of change.

I would definitely want to jump on Bynum if he were available. That said, I don't see why anyone would think that he will be available. He is a rare talent, in that he's huge and skilled and young.

5 no votes--can I get a lucid explanation why? I'd like to hear the counter-point.

I think its obvious. You have clearly outlined 1,356 times that its Lebron or bust in 2010. Since I dont see Lebron in this plan clearly its bust. Who wants that?

I actually voted yes, but mostly because I want briggy to be happy and having Bynum would be a good first step

Andrew Bynum by himself as the only upgrade to this team would not in my opinion make a huge difference in w/l column. You find a way to get both him and a franchise player then I'll be on his jock like fungus. But in that situation there is no Lee, so I voted no to your hypothetical.

Whatever you might believe or think BRIGGS, Bynum is no Kareem, nor at this moment is he an All- Star. Plus he's injury-prone

There is only one Kareem brother and the only chance that Bynum had at being a real superstar went down in Memphis two years ago. That being said--when Pau was out--he did avg 21-11-2 in 38 minutes over many games and Im confident that he will work hard to get better. How could a 7-1 280 pd skilled C next to Lee and Gallo who can do 20-10-2 and guard the rim not have a huge material effect--especially in the east. Wed dominate other frontlines.

that was the plan w/ Curry and Zach and Lee backing up.

Curry, like Bynum who was always hurt got hurt.

I would be more inclined to focus on a more reliable player. We have too many needs to invest so much in a guy who's missed 80 games last 2 years

I doubt the Lakers will give him up. I am sure they would sooner deal Gasol. Not like he brings anything special to the table that they are not getting from other players. He is a good scorer and rebounder, not much else.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

i'd be happier with a frontline of Dwight, Bosh & Lebron

Haywood is unrestricted this summer. No picks or trade necessary, just need to outbid Cuban
