So back in the summer of 07 I was on tour with DMX and we were in Johnsons home town I believe it was arkansaw ore something, somewhere kinda obscure down south... anyways he came to the show but nobody knew who he was! He just looked like a big tall dude with tuns of ridiculous jewlery and a sick truck lol.

Anyways, I recognized him and approached him, he seemed to be happy that I knew who he was and was extra friendly (prolly had somethin 2 do w the fact that I was with X too) but we started talking about the Hawks and I was sayin how he had a promising team but he seemed really down on them like he wasn't happy said somethin like "I guess, we got a long way to go"

Then I jokingly said "man u gotta come to the Knicks!"

Keep in mind this was isiah era... no dantoni.. no sign of cap space.. no hope for this to actually happen... but boy his face LIT UP like a ****in xmas tree I swear he said something like "man, careful what u ask for u never know" but the way he said it you would think his agent was working on a deal as we spoke to NY and he couldn't be happier about it.

But Joe was a cool ass dude, very humble and low key... if we strike out on wade/le ron I defsee him coming... we'll see though... just thought id share this story I always thought it was shocking how intrigued and happy he became when I mentioned the Knicks lol

Joe Johnson & D Lee is the most likely outcome of this summer IMHO.

I will kill myself if we sign Joe. The Hawks lost 3/4 games to the Knicks this season. Smith and Horford really make that team go. Joe is a good player, but right now he is boarding on Allan Houston in one year.

Much rather go the Camby (8), Ray Allen (7), David Lee (10) Felton (6)

Felton/Douglas
Allen/Chanlder
Gallo
Lee
Camby/Curry

Maintain most of our flexibility and add two playoff proven veterans

No disrespect to Felton but D'Antoni likes guys who can shoot. The other 2 are way too old.

Joe Johnson is already beginning to show signs of decline. In 5-6 yrs he'll be done.

I was thinking along the same lines..instead of maxing Johnson out I'd rather resign Lee with a real center.

- Camby short term deal ideally so we can chase Horford next season
- PG of some kind on a short deal
- Manu/Ray Allen type..much prefer Manu but doubt SA ever lets him leave

well, the problem is what "real" center would do well under dantoni's system besides stoudamire, who isnt really a center at all imo. if we get stoudamire and lee we cant get anyone else. i am looking towards a jj and bosh tandem which could work well. but i think bosh will go to miami.

I wish we had Allan Houston. Before thje knees went the guy was good. You go back and look at him on those playoff teams and the guy was a hell of a player. Such a smart player and so many big shots. Its too bad he's associated with that contract cause he was a hell of a player

Alvin Gentry is basically running the same type of system that MDA was running and the Suns are playing MUCH better with Robin Lopez at C. I think SSOL can work with a center as long as he can get up n down the floor and u have a Frye type to pair him with if you need to insert a lineup to stretch defenses.

Why can't Camby = Lopez and Gallo = Frye.

Camby did fine with run n gun in Denver

joe johnson is the definition of ball stopper.

they play great defense - that's why they win. but on offense, johnson is good enough to get away with it but horford and smith just stand around waiting for him to do his thing.

there is one common thing about "SSOL" and that's nash.

i guess we'll see over the next season or two whether MDA is:

a) only a good coach with Steve Nash and some other all stars

b) only a good coach with an all world PG at the helm

c) only a good coach with at least 2 good FAs we sign

d) just a lucky SOB

Either way he will definitely be

e) a multi millionaire
