It's almost as if they make moves independently only with the pact of publicly supporting each other. They don't appear to be a match for each other and never were. 2010 is the only thing keeping these guys on the same page. The Nate and Hughes situation coupled with how Marbury was treated last yr after it was stated each player would get a fair shake leads me to believe they don't do too much talking to each other.
I agree with this. In all three situations you mentioned Walsh said he didn't know what the problem was but he was going to meet with each of the players and talk to the coach. I'm sure Walsh didn't expect to deal with the diva side coming from his head coach.
Stephon Marbury was inactive again Sunday, and Knicks president Donnie Walsh plans to speak with coach Mike D'Antoni and his point guard this week in hopes of clearing up an uncomfortable roster situation.
"I thought he was important in the sense that he can change a game," Walsh said after practice in Greenburgh. "That is, to me, what Nate can do when he is playing the right way. He can come in and change the tempo of a game dramatically. But I support the coach. I'm not in the locker room. I'm not on the floor seeing everything that is going on. So I have total faith in Mike's judgment."
Walsh and Robinson had a brief conversation after practice that did not get into the whys of the benching. Robinson is well aware of the reasons and Walsh doesn't feel the need to reiterate D'Antoni's position.
"If it comes up, I would tell him what I see," he said. "I haven't gotten to that point."
But they do not appear on speaking terms. Hence, Hughes' revelation before the game he had to have a meeting with Donnie Walsh on Thursday to find out why he was demoted and air his complaints. You reap what you sow. You tick off players with an utter lack of communication, they'll get you back.
