The Bad News
The lovable, but greedy, Al Harrington is a high volume shooter. Al has attempted the second highest number of shots (827) and only shot 44 per cent from the field, but the more troublesome stat is that he only averages 1.7 assist per game, the lowest among the starters next to Gallinari at 1.6. Harrington's March report card includes 827 shots (as of this morning) that will be inherited by a revamped frontcourt rotation, preferably one that includes Chris Bosh.
The Good News
By contrast, the reason Walsh keeps The Mayor is for his productivity and willingness to share the pill. Chandler has taken fewer shots (786) but shot a much better percentage at 48. The good news is that his assist average per game is 2.1 and will improve with time. The better news is that the leading volume shooter (939 as of this morning) David Lee is shooting a gaudy 55 per cent from the field.
The infusion of Tracy McGrady's intelligence and court vision (4.6 assists) has inspired better continuity and that is worth putting a gold star next to. His leadership is a welcome relief from the tentative play of Chris Duhon, who shot a pitiful 34 per cent from the field. The other problem child, the rookie Gallo, at .418 will work on his shot selection and get better.
Subtract Duhon and Harrington's shot attempts to date and you have over a thousand (1225) shots on the table, to be redistributed among a more cohesive, and hopefully more productive, rotation.
Hit the open man.
