The Bad News

The lovable, but greedy, Al Harrington is a high volume shooter. Al has attempted the second highest number of shots (827) and only shot 44 per cent from the field, but the more troublesome stat is that he only averages 1.7 assist per game, the lowest among the starters next to Gallinari at 1.6. Harrington's March report card includes 827 shots (as of this morning) that will be inherited by a revamped frontcourt rotation, preferably one that includes Chris Bosh.

The Good News

By contrast, the reason Walsh keeps The Mayor is for his productivity and willingness to share the pill. Chandler has taken fewer shots (786) but shot a much better percentage at 48. The good news is that his assist average per game is 2.1 and will improve with time. The better news is that the leading volume shooter (939 as of this morning) David Lee is shooting a gaudy 55 per cent from the field.

The infusion of Tracy McGrady's intelligence and court vision (4.6 assists) has inspired better continuity and that is worth putting a gold star next to. His leadership is a welcome relief from the tentative play of Chris Duhon, who shot a pitiful 34 per cent from the field. The other problem child, the rookie Gallo, at .418 will work on his shot selection and get better.

Subtract Duhon and Harrington's shot attempts to date and you have over a thousand (1225) shots on the table, to be redistributed among a more cohesive, and hopefully more productive, rotation.

Hit the open man.

Nice post, Earl. If we don't grab Lebron, hopefully we find a way to sign Bosh and keep David. Maybe if we're lucky we can also sign a shooter and resign TMac for one year at vet minimum to re-establish his bird rights and then give him a healthy extension using those rights.

Bosh
Lee
Chandler
Joe J.
TMac

Gallo off the bench. That'd work.

there's no way we have enough money for Bosh, Joe Johnson, Dlee and Tmac. that's not happening.

on top of that, do you honestly think dantoni starts chandler over gallo.. In dantoni's offense he has to have someone to stretch the floor as well.. chandler comes off the bench...if he is not traded honestly..

Another thing, that team will still get steamrolled... bosh is not a center and lee at PF still produces a somewhat weak front line defensively...

The knicks should have looked into dumping lee on the suns. I would have done a lee for Robin lopez and EArl clark..... got that idea from another poster.. I think that would have been a good deal for both teams.

tkf - I feel you on stretching the floor but check dis out

the best way to stretch the floor is to MAKE the shot. If you don't make it, defenses leave you alone.

The Mayor, right now based on field goal percentage, is a more effective shooter than Gallo. I would love to see Gallo patent a drop step mid range Jack Sikma jumper than would be unstoppable... and at 6'10 a weapon inside against anyone.

Moonangie is on the right track, except I'd gladly wait one more year for Carmelo instead of Joe Johnson

I like this line-up, lots of punch. However, I'd love to introduce the concept of a nine man rotation. The idea is to stay fresh for a playoff run.

Mista dropping Sikma on us!!!!!

He had a crazy effective shot.

Know who does it even better? Tim Duncan. I know its easier to comp the white guys to each other (Dlee with Alvin Adams!!! A former Sun to boot!) but Timmy Duncan mastered the shot and even made it prettier!

The key as you well know is for Gallo to bone up on his fundamentals as he gets stonger. Cuz in a few years he will only get stiffer and stiffer as he ages.

Nalod - Jack Sikma may have looked stiff but he was no stiff. He was one of the most effective big men of his era. At 6'11 and 230 pounds he is the ideal role model for Gallo who needs to rent the Sonics DVD. In 13 seasons he averaged 16 and 10 which is right around the production the Knicks could use from Gallinari.

The mitch Lawrence article claiming that elite players will shun the Knicks due to recent performance is a load of manure.

Players are in it to get paid. Winning is a nice benefit for a player concerned with his legacy. But it is not the prime motivator for a player intent on building his personal brand or feeding his family.

I miss Spencer Haywood
