OK, maybe its the Canadian anthem that's been ringing in my ears lately, maybe its the fact that Syracuse just tore up 'Nova and will be #1 next week... but Andy Rautins is looking like a player who'd be real nice playing the PG slot for us even in a bench role if he was playing along side a Wade/LeBron/Johnson type that dominated the ball.

Dude is as good as Curry and Teague were last year as passers. Has developed real handle, and leads the Big East in steals... playing in the zone 95% of the time.

You know it would only take a middle 2nd round pick to get him.

He could develop into a modern Thunder Dan type... Anyone buying what I'm selling?

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I like Rautins. He played well last night against SJU with 14 & 7. He can pass and shoot. Not sure if he's someone I'd target with one of those two 2nd round picks though (I might prefer 2 guys with higher projected ceilings myself) and I'm not sure I see the Thunder Dan comparison but you're right JW, he can play and he's definitely a big contributor for the Orange.

Watching the Ohio State/Illinois game last night before I went to sleep --- like Rautins, another tremendous shooter that's flying under the radar is Buckeyes' guard Jon Diebler. He may not be the assist man Rautins or a guy like Jon Scheyer can be at times for their clubs but he's a lights-out shooter that can also handle & pass it a little bit too (he handled the ball quite a bit last night against Demetri McCamey and the Illini). Very smart looking player. Bigger than Rautins - this guy has legit NBA 2-guard size, going 6'6" over 200 lbs. Last night Diebler went for 21 pts. on 7-14 from deep leaving him with 93 3-pt. makes on the season, more than Rautins & Scheyer who both have in the 80s somewhere on 3-pointers made (Rautins had over 100 3-pt. makes last year). We're talking MAKES here guys..Incredible..These guys are all pure shooters, all over 40% from deep...Diebler was one of the best scorers to ever come out of HS in Ohio...

Greivis Vasquez, Andy Rautins, Jon Scheyer -- Out of all of these similar guards, Vasquez may not have as pure a stroke as these others but I still believe he has the most complete floor game that should translate well at the next level. Vasquez had 41 pts. at VA Tech. last month btw..Duke @ Maryland, Vasquez against Scheyer, tonight at 9pm on ESPN...I do think this kid Diebler's right there though, in the same breath...Watching Diebler play, I could envision him catching on with some NBA team in a Jason Kapono-type role...Whatever goes on with all these top FAs is anyone's guess --- on a positive note, we should definitely have the opportunity to improve our perimeter shooting w/o breaking the bank - there will be plenty of solid shooters out there to choose from to help fill out our roster. Not sure what his obligation is with his French team but AD Vassallo is another big 2 with a great shooting stroke that the Knicks should be looking hard at at this off-season IMO. Last time I looked up his stats, he was having a really nice season over there...

Yeah, maybe Heinrich, but he was at least a SG in college. Its hard to find somebody to compare him to because he started out as just a situational gunner, then got a little bigger and became an off the bench, stretch the defense forward, then his handle got better and he played flex forward, and now his handle is so good that he played PG most of the game against SJ.

Only a player who has the opportunity to play 5 years could go through a transformation like that.

He could just go to Europe and be a big time player right away like his dad did (dad played with Bilas in Europe), but he seems like he'd at least have a shot in the NBA since he's not tiny, can handle, knock down a trey from anywhere, and leads the best conference in college ball in steals.

How about Jim Boeheim's player development in recent years? You look at the player that Warrick was when he got there and by the time he left. Rautins. Flynn going as high as he did in the draft. Rick Jackson scored 28 the other night... he couldn't shoot from point blank when he got there.
For a while it seemed like he would just ride naturally talented players, groom role players to fit a specific need, and put them all in a system that allows big time players to expend most of their energy on offense. Now, he looks like a top 5 coach by any measure, and I can't imagine sending my kid to play for anyone but him or Krzyzewyski if I had that kind of choice.

Good points.

Good points.

I was thinking Jeff Hornacek might be a good comparison. Hornacek was walk-on who got better in college year after year and wasn't the best athlete. Fred Hoiberg might also be a good comparison. Heinrich was a heck of a lot more athletic than Rautins in college. Either way, I wouldn't waste a pick on him. I'd definitely offer him roster spot in summer league though.

Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

He better make the NBA. So he can buy a new face. Or some dumb shallow chick that just checks his bank accounts.

Otherwise... he better start taking a shine to farm animals.
