We got better real quick, but we pay a price.
Its like a Race car driver not able to drive, a substitute comes in and wins. The car wins, the owner wins, but the guy whose car won, the one with his name all over it did not win.
Now I got to root for Little Penny when for years I did not like him? Just cuz he is in a Knick uniform? Steph called out Ward and said we would never with with Ward and Childs in the back court. Its not an unreasonable statement, but those were our guys at the time. Now Steph is a Knick and I have to cheer him when I could have cared less about him? Im a knick fan, and those guys were not knicks for many years. I hate missionary teams that collect players. I don't like the NFL because of the % of roster changes year to year. It creates parity, but it also makes it hard for teams to stay together.
I might be old school, but even the knick teams of the 1990s had a certain core to them. The Bulls with Jordan and company kept a core going and it made it interesting.
I liked Lampes personality and was looking forward to his developement. We blast the team for never building with young guys, and here we had a few. This is no knock against Starbury, he is a great player, but I prefer we grow our own. The attention on Starbury deflects on Little Pennies 43mil we now owe him and how he can't move anymore. Eisley sucked, but this guy is eating a lot of money now. Milos is one of the best in Europe, maybe he does or does not cut it here, but its interesting and the payoff for the team can be nice. This does not take away Starburys talent or impact, just another way a fan apprciates the game. Phx has Amare and Marion to build off of. Some teams can build for long run and I do wish either Laydog, or Thomas had the balls to do the right thing. Dolan wanted to make the playoffs, and he should get his wish. Teams that contend for the long run is done thru the draft, and a complimentry trade to put the final pieces together.
Amare can be with PHX for 15 years, same with Lebron, Carmello, etc.
Steph is 27, and should be great, but what are we surrounding him with? Allan got a few good years left, but Mutumbo? KVH? KT? Frank is a good supporting guard at best. Othello? Doleac?
So we gonna trade them all? What assets do we have for the next few years? Whats gonna happen in 3 years? Nobody on the knicks seems to care.
Hey, Im not a fan of Laydog, He did a bad job, especially leaving big holes with incomplete trades. I hope Thomas can address these things with further wheeling and dealing. I am rooting for Thomas as I rooted for Laydog to do the right thing.
Teams either win or give hope for the future. I was banking on assets saved for future years. Steph is a great talent and I can understand the business move to get a star.
If the future is here and now, then just win baby. If not, then I will continue to root for the right moves no matter whom is making them.
