I want to like D'Antoni. At times, he leaves me puzzled. The rotations are crazy. His dedication to certain players and his distaste for others is frustrating.
However, since he's been here, the Knicks have only made one positive basketball transaction (drafting Gallo). Every other move that I recall, we lost on talent, and gained in cap room. That's tough on a coach.
I think he's shown some creativity. He figured out a way to zone up effectively using Jeffries. I'll give him credit for that. It didn't propel us to defensive juggernaut, but it was new and creative, and, to a degree, it worked. Further, it showed that he does put some thought into defense.
The offense, his specialty, doesn't look so good. But this leads me back to my previous point. Up until now, he hasn't had the benefit of adding better players. Talent-wise this team is much worse than the team we had when he signed on to coach.
If we don't come out the gate flying in 2010, then there's gonna be problems. As for now, the Knicks got 99 problems but the coach ain't one.
