And gives a thorough discussion of most of the issues.
Replace Stern with Simmons maybe?
The article mentions most of the current problems. I definitely like the non-tanking solution.
Bill Simmons on Tyreke Evans "The prototypical 0-guard: Someone who handles the ball all the time, looks for his own shot, gets to the rim at will and operates best if his teammates spread the floor to watch him."

Interesting read. Kinda long, so I skimmed the last third.

Sounds like some sort of re-organization is in order.

Good read. I like simmons. He is a diehard Celts fanboy but his stuff is pretty good.

His ripping and run in's with Isiah was very funny. Isiah deserved it.

I'd like to read his book.

One must say the Knicks are on the right track as we were not the posterchild for dysfunction for a change.

Naturally we had to get McGrady to keep our string of crazy contracts in tact!

He is right on many counts and the rest is up in the air to be evaluated later.

Holy Cross grad, so I'm a big Simmons fan.

Was a good read and his book is even better.

He often jokes around a lot in his columns but he really does suggest a lot of changes that would seriously improve the sport. You can easily tell that he is a diehard fan by reading his work because he puts the effort in to know the sport as well as possible. You won't see someone like Berman talk about a site like 82games.com but Simmons stays on top of all of that and even knows the CBA very well.

"This is a very cautious situation that we're in. You have to be conservative in terms of using your assets and using them wisely. We're building for the future." - Zeke (I guess not protecting a first round pick is being conservative)

Yeah, this was a good one. A very good one. When people talk about that fractured economic state of the NBA, they generally make some racially-charged comment about 'overpaid thugs' and they keep it moving.

This was a better examination on the incompetence of owners and the gestapo Stern who oversees it all and facilitates. Simmons suggestions would never fly, but this was a really good piece nonetheless.

Whoa, not so bad you pulled out the race card for a moment but calling Stern, a Jewish fella a "gestopo" is pretty raw.

But true to your word your not using as many cuss words!

I've soured on Simmons. The "voice of the fan", who goes to Super Bowl Week but leaves Sunday morning, and who goes to the All Star Weekend in Dallas and does the same.

I agree that something needs to be done about tanking. Wholly unfair to the fans of the team tanking AND the fans of other teams who's lottery odds get reduced because some other team is purposely losing.
I suggested taking a three year average win total as opposed to only the current one.
That way you don't end up with a San Antonio/Duncan or Miami/Beasley situation.
But Simmons suggestion is intriguing, too.

maybe do away with tanking by giving all the lottery teams an equal chance at landing the #1 pick & implement a rule that any team can't land a top 3 pick 2 years in a row... maybe that will motivate teams to do something in free agency & trades more to improve their franchise.

that article sucked. Sorry... it did.

There needs to be a CBA so the owners can make money. I'm sorry. A new CBA isnt the answer to bad management. Thats idiocy. Why should a guy like Trevor Ariza not get good money because dumb owners gave huge money to Curry, Chandler, Peja, AK47, etc etc

This reminds me of when baseball owners (led by the Ranger's owner Hicks) were crying about unfair player salaries. That offseason he game ARod a $250mm 10 year contract. He eventually paid $60mm of it just so the Yankee would take the rest.

A hard cap ruined the NFL. Sorry but it did. Every year good players are cut and reshuffled from team to team because of the hard cap.

Owners need to figure it out for themselves.

The sport that has it right is baseball. Luxury tax but no cap.

Ariza is getting $5.5 million a year and he can't carry a team, lead a team or sell tickets. If our President is on TV everyday bashing Wall Street I think we can bash the system in place in the NBA. Curry sits on the bench and collects 33 million over the past three years and the fans of new york are held hostage.

When you have to pay a dunker like Keynon Martin $96 million just for him to leave his team that is disgraceful. The NFL system is a great system for basketball. Look at the even playing field. That doesn't exist in baseball. Just because you are a ****ing idiot that can't budget your finances and put money away (Walker, Iverson, Pippen) doesn't mean it's unfair to redo the system. If someone like Eddy Curry comes into camp out of shape and not ready to play, goodbye. Take your fat ass somewhere else. You get money up front and if you don't take your job seriously you are gone. NO double standards.

If a player gets injured there is no way he should get the full amount of his contract. TMAC doesn't warrant $50 million over two years. He hasn't earned it so he shouldn't get it.

I like Simmons idea on the ticket sales for losing teams. Teams should absolutely be forced to lower their prices if they continously put out crappy products.

But I also think player contracts should move towards a "pay for play" model where their salary is largly based on their individual performance, team performance, and games played.

I don't think we should be so quick to cut guys off that get hurt. They're laying it all out on the court, and if they get hurt and their career ends prematurely, they should still get paid something. I mean, otherwise, you've have guys maybe holding back, worried about being hurt.

Maybe you let those guys come off the cap.

But, then there is a guy like Curry that should lose his contract. Ballooning out to 380 is not an injury- except to the burgers and pizza he ate in the process.
