It just occurred to me--- this is the most balanced lineup we've sported since the Sprewell trade years ago.

We're actually neatly 2 deep at every position.

Mutombo/Doleac
Thomas/Harrington
Van Horn/Anderson
Houston/Penny
Marbury/Williams

While we don't have the wet-behind the ears feeling of youth we did just a few weeks ago, it looks like we have some studs just entering their primes along with a set of grizzled, playoff tested veterans. We've managed to salvage keeping our most promising young prospect and X-factor (Williams) as well as keep our entire starting lineup intact. Time to rejoice.

Not too long ago we had our backs against the wall, our roster was packed 1-15 with tons of mismatched parts and prospects.

Our remaining spots are filled by Moochie and Sweetney. We have room to test out some hungry players from development leagues.

Thomas is being very aggressive in a year where the luxury tax apparently is unlikely to go into effect. Young stars like Lebron and Anthony are giving the league a boost. If the Knicks become a winning team, the NY market could further bolster the league's earnings and decrease the chance of a luxury tax hit. At least it makes sense.

Last time I considered us this deep and balanced, we had:

Ewing/Dudley
Oakley/B.Williams
LJ/Mills
Houston/Starks
Childs/Ward

Prior to that:
Ewing/Herb
Oakley/Mason
Smith/Campbell
Starks/Davis
Harper/Anthony

yea, i really like how anderson's minutes will be cut down, mutumbo will be happier with more minutes, and that harrington will actually get to play on a more consitent basis.

While I agree with most of your post, I have to say this team didn't exactly have that "wet behind the ears" feel to it - the vets were the only ones getting playing time with the exception of FWill. Lampe, Vranes, and Sweets all rode the bench. Zeke made a good trade, he god rid of some legit garbage - anyone who is crying over McDone is a fool, Lampe got no run under Chaney and wasn't about to, Eisley is gone thank god. Let those scrubs be someone elses problem.
