Fugeddabout da freakin salary cap for a freakin moment.

Huge props to the Garden fans who showered Tracy McGrady with love and positive vibes. The 26 point performance was McGrady's way of saying "thank you very much." Of course, no way should he have played more than 15 minutes in his first game back, but New York fans have a way of lifting players to do the unexpected. Just think, if that crowd adrenaline can do wonderful things for average players like John Starks or Anthony Mason, what can it do for a (former all star) player who understands there is no better place than New York to leave a legacy?

McGrady understands that loud noise from the blue seats is for him and his team... and anyone looking carefully noticed there was not an empty seat in The Garden, The joint was packed and loud, as it once was and should be. What can be achieved in that type of atmosphere? Just ask Clyde... or ask Willis.

Please forgive this love letter to my beloved franchise but the present just got brighter. The Knicks added a veteran presence who is both intelligent, poised and talented. Other teams will need to plan defenses with him in mind.

If this is indeed a team game, the best thing about having Tracy McGrady on the floor is that he relieves David Lee from always directing traffic from the top of the key. T.Mac has earned the respect of the refs and he offers Wilson Chandler a role model. McGrady is working to help the people of Haiti through UNICEF and, after his personal journey, has brought attention to the crisis in Darfur.

I'm widit.

The Knicks did not lose some glue, they gained some epoxy.

loweyecue - your friendly rebuttal is vapid, missing any substance and ignores any statistical evidence.

But I am with you in the spirit of being arbitrary

and thankful the number 3 NYK jerseys can be recycled

And what statistics and substance did you present my good man? I am a fan, and I will always hope for the team to come out and play hard and win. But I am also quite cynical and I don't get carried away every-time someone has a good game. To me this trade was salary dump and I am good with it, except We gave away the 2012 pick. I think Walsh effectively traded the opportunity at getting a franchise player through the draft 3 years from now for the opportunity of getting one in the off-season. Which to me is not a terrible trade.

loweyecue - you can barely define what "play hard" means, let alone what it means to have a stabilizing 6'8 influence on the court who can handle the pill.

You want to second guess Donnie Walsh from your keyboard that is fine with me. But please don't equate mashing keys to a general manager negotiating with his competition for the best talent.

Any opinion of how the Knicks CFO will distribute Cablevison cash, how much Donnie is empowered by the Dolan's to spend that "available" cash, caps, the final expense of renovations to MSG after the Sopranos mark up the cost of drywall, free agents or sales of jerseys before that, is pure SPECULATION...

... from a long distance away.

See you in July 2012.

I'm with you on this one Earl. I support any New York athlete who stands for the same principles as the city itself stands for. Hard work, resilience, and fortitude. I've always been a McGrady fan, and I'm pushing for him to be as successful as he can be for us. Its guys like Eddy Curry who I show disgust for. Guys who waste golden opportunities to do something with their careers, but choose the path of carelessness and laziness.

Let's go Tmac.

They gained epoxy AND some moxie. Obviously the summer makes this season entirely subject to change without notice. But that will likely be a change for the better (i.e., Bosh & Lebron/Joe/Wade). Hopefully we can squeeze TMac in there if he looks to have durable knees again (doubtful). I doubt there is any way we win at the FA action and retain Lee. It's a shame, but he will have a brilliant career, and could be back here in his prime if he only signs for 3 years (player option for third). Chandler is going to get better from playing with TMac, even if he loses a few touches. Gallo is going to be off the hook one day, he just gets basketball and he has true grit. Give him 20 more pounds and a good yoga routine and he will absolutely own.

2011:
1 - Sergio/TMac
2 - TMac/Chandler
3 - Lebron
4 - Gallo
5 - Bosh

That's doable with a Curry/TD trade. We could pick up some solid role players in those trades. Put Tmac at the 1 and Ill Wil at the 2 and it's maybe even sicker (if Tracy regains form). Curry can come off the bench until we trade his expiring. We will need some more role players, but that's an insane five right there.

Moonangie - that is one helluva lineup

from your keyboard to David Sterns Executive Assistant

After watching film of Saturday's game, D'Antoni mentioned a few things that stood out about McGrady, namely his hoops IQ ("way off the charts") and the fact that "you can tell he just has a star presence."

This is really a trade they had to make. It makes the team more watchable for the rest of the year and it should hasten the recovery process for the franchise by opening up that cap room. Only problem I have is that it should've been done months ago. Donnie should've been pushing for this deal a long time ago, along with bringing in Allen Iverson at the same time. Maybe he did and Houston had cold feet all along up until the end, who knows...Still needed to be done for the shedding future cap space angle, but man, now the season's kinda out of reach. I betcha Utah's happy we made this deal now and not weeks ago...

I swear I'm OK if the top stars don't come here. I want LeBron in the worst way, but if he doesn't come, you look at Bosh and then if that fails to materialize as well, I switch gears and focus on smaller moves to improve with guys like a CJ Watson, an Antoine Wright, maybe bringing back an Eddie House &/or a Sergio Rodriguez, get two useful players in the draft, stuff like that....Not using all the cap space this summer if it's not worth it isn't necessarily a bad thing -- just keep more open for 2011 when we can finally dump Eddy Curry and Melo becomes available. We're gonna get through this fellas...

3 Is The New 3

“I was really surprised in that first quarter how good he was in the pick-and-roll,” Lee said.

McGrady, even at 30 and even after knee surgery, can take over a game, beat defenders off the dribble and finish in traffic. He will take the pressure off the young prospects and perhaps give them a little confidence as well.

Tonight

If Tracy McGrady can play 20 minutes in his second game back in over a year, I am a very happy camper. I look forward to see which players he becomes compatible with.

Forget the cannoli, watch the ball movement.

Tracy: "My boo boo is hurting, Mike. Maybe I should sit for a bit."
Mike: "TMac, buck up. This is your chance to show the nice folks you still got game."
Tracy: "Ok *sobs*, but it REALLY hurts."

Mofo looked like he was in some agony last night, all grimaces and rubbing, a limp here and there. He certainly doesn't have the pop he used to have. Looks like he isn't done with rehab by any stretch. Bummer, because that first game was kind of sweet. I doubt he plays more than a couple more games for us before he is benched due to knee pain.

I think any time Earl makes a positive thread he just jinxes the team even more. Earl, start making negative threads instead. Maybe our fortunes will turn.

The Answer Man Only Jinxes Tracy McGrady

Q. jimimou - where are you now?

A. Fondling some rosary beads and a rabbits foot - with the hope that the knees (26 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, zero turnovers) can heal completely over the Summer.

im here always earl...with the good and the bad games. unlike some others who hide out when the team loses and pop their heads out of the sand when the knicks win a game.

If McGrady is now sidelined with knee issues, it may scare away any other teams from signing him and enable us to sign him for vet minimum next season.
