Allan Houston & Steph are now the core of this team.
We have a good team with our starters. We will definitely make the playofss with this squad.

Starbury
Houston
Van Horn
Thomas
Mutumbo

But we need more to win a championship. Our best post players are Van Horn and Houston (have you ever Allan's footwork in the post? I'm not kidding he's good!!)

Obviously we need a big man who can score in the paint. We should look first to upgrade at PF because what we have in Mutumbo (defense, rebounds, blocks) is not as easily replaced. What we have in Kurt Thomas is a very solid PF with a nice touch to 20 feet, who is tough and rebounds but is not very athletic (he can't jump and isn't fast) not to mention his occasionally psychotic behavior. He also has ZERO back to the basket game.
Bear in mind that I like Kurt.

But we should look at a player who can post-up, and score. Who can catch an alley-oop. Who can jump and grab a got damn rebound out of the sky.

Who fits the criteria?

Rasheed Wallace(a real possibility, they want to get rid of him too)
Jermaine O'Neal (a real dream, but I would have said that about Starbury, so I am learning not doubt Isiah)

Brad Miller It depends on what we have to give up, but I remember being pissed off that we never tried to get him when he was available before.

Elden Campbell he's old but he can score in the post and get rebounds.

Jamaal Magloire?
Adonal Foyle?
Eric Dampier?

any other ideas...

How about a Stromile Swift type of Player? I think that kid might be the piece we need now. Maybe West could be kind and send him our way for say harrington and Norris?

That would be nice....

Marbury
houston
KVH
KT
Mutombo
Swift
Penny
Fwill
Anderson
Doleac

I think with our lineup we could potentially make it out of the east. While we're talking on paper-- there simply are no teams in the east with dominant post players, with the exception of Indiana. I thought Ilgauskas was up there, but for one reason or another he has regressed. K-Mart is very good player, but his forte is not his back to the basket play (on a team w/ Jason Kidd, he doesn't have to be). Jamal Mashburn will give NO a solid post guy, but he's not a big man.

The Knicks were playing an exciting brand of basketball during the short FW-led winning streak, moving the ball quickly and getting great 1-on-1 work from KVH and Houston. This formula supplemented by Marbury's play should get us back on track.

Of the players mentioned, Rasheed Wallace is probably the most desirable from a talent standpoint. IMO, he never truly reached his full potential, in spite of his great physical tools. Unlike Camby, he can't blame it on recurring injury. I'm not too convinced he's markedly better than KVH, if at all. One thing going KVH's way is at least he knows the right things to say.

While the big push right now is for Leon Smith, I'm concerned that his problems go beyond his troubled childhood. We know he skipped college--- did he even graduate high school? Does he have the mental makeup to make it in the NBA?

Forget about Stromile. Scout like to drool over his physical gifts, but they say he's got a horribly low basketball IQ--- it's one big reason why he doesn't always get the playing time even he's healthy.

My solution, if it comes down to adding 1 post-up presence: Roy Tarpley. :) He's playing in the CBA now...

the thing about rasheed is that he can take a game winning shot and has more fire and desire.. with the addition of marbury, teams wont know who to cover more, houston or marbury or possibly wallace.. i doubt teams worry about van horn taking the game winning shot.

We were gonna make the playoffs as long as Frank Williams stayed healthy and started at the point, so now that we brought on Starbury we can't be just talking playoffs anymore...It has to be EC CHAMPS!
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.
