That's a lot of cap space! 35.7M if the cap is 53.5!

Actual cap space is more around 31M because of the roster spot holds.

Just 2-3 years ago, we are sitting at 139 million dollars. Who honestly thought we would be in this position 2 years later?

WindsorPl, I think most poeple know that our exirings have cap holds. There are many different scenerios that could lead to different amounts of actual cap space gained. Lee could be resigned, remounced signed and traded.

The snapshot did not show the cap holds and neither did the post.
Lee is going to be resigned. If they had plans to renounce him, they should have traded him last week. Sign and trade? Maybe, but until that happens, cannot tell Lebron to bring a friend. And from everything I read, the first shoe to drop will be Lebron.

I'm not even worried about Lebron anymore. If he comes, which was a longshot to begin with and even tougher now with Jamison, I'd be ecstatic. However there are other scenarios that could still lead to a title centending team. We'll have to see what 30+mil will get us. My guess is that can bring us a lot of premium talent.

I'd be happy with, instead of two max (though Wade and bosh would be nice) I'd like:
- bosh $17
- lee $10
- tmac $8

perfect world we keep lee and tmac, but I wouldn't had of a lee sign and trade with Toronto to compensate them for their loss of bosh.

If a sign and trade for lee happens, bring in a point guard And throw the farm at melo. I'm talking G5!

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

sez who?

the knicks could VERY well deal lee in a sign and trade...

and there is no absolute regarding the knicks need to sign and trade lee to get another max player...

actually, if the cap figure is 53 mil they would have to make a little more cap room, but could do so with buying out eddy curry, for example.

Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

That's the truth about any of our 2010 expiring players.

But you are correct, and I forgot about, those roster spot cap holds (are they vet minimum each?) up to... 13 filled spots? So, that'd be 7 spots times minimum? Yikes!

But, how does that affect us in terms of "Well, two of those cap held spots are being signed" type deal? If you replace a cap held spot with a player...then well, the cap hit is whatever you signed the player to correct?

But still, I keep forgetting about these ridiculous cap holds for empty slots.

Pooh.

But, it's still an image I never EVER thought I'd see this soon. To see only 17.8M guaranteed salary for a following season. It's nice.

What we do with it, well...that's another story.

Actually, there is. They have about 21 M in cap space counting Lee's cap hold. That's 1 max contract plus about 5 Mil.

I think a better use of our cap would be getting guys younger than 26. Gay would be nice addition for McGrady to mentor.

If T-Mac is able to contribute anywhere close to what he did last night on a consistent basis, then I think I would rather have D-Lee & T-Mac return to play alongside a Lebron or Wade than to go for 2 and fill out the rest of the roster will minimum salaries...

it all depends on what Lebron would rather have this summer... he's got Donnie Walsh by the balls with a pair of pliers & a blowtorch right now.

Between my last two posts, I point out the total cap space, presuming a $57M cap. Latest projections are showing it increasing to $57M next year. It doesn't matter much with a two max free agent plan because the max contract amount is a sliding scale set at 30% of the salary cap. So, regardless of the cap total, two max free agents will be 60% of our cap space.

I note that in the second scenario, McGrady is contracted at the Veteran's Minimum. The fact that this puts us over the cap is not relevant. We can sign as many vets minimum contracts as necessary (or advisable) based upon the Vet's minimum exception. I would think that a player like Camby might be tempted to take the Vet's Minimum also to play here.

Sergio Rodriguez accepting the Qualifying Offer is the oddest part of this projecting because he will not receive a QO from the Knicks. His cap hold is the same as a Max FA. It is more likely that he will negotiate a two year deal.

i think it's gonna take at least a MLE type offer to get guys like T-Mac or Camby... i know Tracy said money won't be an issue but let's be real, if he shows he can still ball the rest of the way he's going to command at least MLE dollars from a host of teams next season.
