According to one source the Rockets tried to make a last-hour run at Stoudemire, offering Shane Battier, Luis Scola, Brian Cook, a Rockets draft pick and one of the picks the Rockets acquired from the New York Knicks. Because of the lateness of the hour the Suns wanted to waive the physical examinations for the players involved. The Rockets didn't want to do that for Stoudemire, who has had two major knee surgeries, so the proposal died and the Suns didn't make the long list of satisfied customers.

Morey planned to use assets he acquired from US to get Amare. WOW. No wonder he wanted those picks so bad.

For all the credit Morey gets for building a hard working, blue-collar team, the moment he got his chance to starphuck with Martin and Amare he took it.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

If Amare did not pass physical and had to return to the suns after the trade it would have been real bad for Kerr. As if he has not phucked up that franchise enough.

Morey tried to snare Amare. Give the guy credit for trying. He is evil and must be stopped.

Don't knick fans wish we had this guy? young agressive GM!

Wanna know how he does it? He got cap room to take Amare on and picks to give.

Walsh is not hte sleep old man anymore. The GM viagra is CAPSPACE. That magical fountain of youth that empowers GM's into greatness. Us it well and your golden.

Next year he has Yao off the books. If Yao is not Yao anymore then they have CAPSPACE.

Bathing in capspace and draftpicks is what Briggy can only dream of!

because he learned there's only so far you can go with a blue-collar team with no stars. the rockets have played exceedingly well this year - about as well as that roster could play - and they're sitting outside the playoffs at present.

This means Morey plans on using assets to get a star PF in a S&T.

If he had pulled it off that would have had a ripple effect on the summer FA market. Plus he could STILL pull it off if Amare opt-ins to allow a draft day trade to go through.

- The Suns were insisting Houston waive the physical for that exact reason.

- This deal has ZERO to do with cap space. Morey flipped guys he found in the 2nd Round into better players. This trade is all above good drafting and and acquiring assets.

NO doubt, and Houstan had been mediocre for years. Even with Tmac and Yao they can'd advance. Even after winning 22 in a row, they can't advance.

So they are rebuilding on the fly and have Yao on the blocks.

The guy is doing a good job with a roster. No doubt.

I prefer like many to have been in the same position but we had some really bad deals and the only way to get rid of them was to package it with assets.

Maybe had houstan gone all in a few years ago they could have competed better.

Isiah took on contracts to get assets, and we had to shed assets to get rid of them. Im not laying blame, just stating what is.

ROckets have Yao expiring. There is no way with his health record would anyone max him out again.

Hows this for cap space. Say we have room next year and don't sign everyone.

YOu could trade Eddy for Yao. Does not help our cap, but it saves Houstan money. Could put us in the playoffs if we are sniffing it and Yao is healthy. Just throwing out a situation that could happen.

Nobody touches Yao for big money. Yao in NY? Don't laugh.

i don't think alot of folks understand the money aspect of it. some teams just are not willing to go into luxury or be that far over the cap. that's a direct mandate from the owner and thus severely handcuffs the gm.

so you have to work within the restraints and try to fill up the arena and make the owner as much money as possible while not having the finacial wings to spread.

so with all that taken into account, morey has done a fantastic job with houston. he has built a team that it's fans can support b/c they play hard. and every year, he has had to deal with an injury to tmac or yao...and they still continue to make the postseason.

now he has accumulated assets and young players to make a move to add some scoring to his "blue collar team". he has to replace tmac's ability and that's where kevin martin comes in. and he will eventually have to replace yao which is where all these assets come in. it's not starphucking kam - it's about needing a scorer in the backcourt and a scorer in the frontcourt and then surrounding them all with lunchpail guys. they will make a very strong play for bosh this summer and will probably be ny's #1 competetion for him (outside of toronto that is).

What, adding Amare and Martin to Ariza and Brooks--and potentially Yao--is starphucking?

Nah, I call that as balanced a starting five as there is in the league. Unsure if it's a contender but it is certainly legit

I find it interesting that Morey is getting all this praise, yet he did everything Walsh was not supposed to do. Take on Jeffries contract, accumulate picks for the future and trade for a young PF named Hill.
He sacrificed cap space for the future, Walsh would not have dared. Or at least the fans would not have let him.
Fans want instant gratification in NY, but are admiring good patient team building in other places. Fascinating.

His team is just out of the playoffs in the West. Another thing is his team plays consistent ball. So he can judge what the team needs to push them over the top. You cant give Morey all the credit because Adelman is bringing it all together on the floor.

Im most impressed with Morey not being infatuated with guys he drafted and holding his young assets to long. *cough* Portland

NY'ers would be happy just making the playoffs. However I assume most would agree you dont mortgage the future by giving picks.
