"I am excited to be headed to New York and look forward to wearing a Knick uniform," McGrady said on his website. "It's a dream to play in New York and there is nothing that compares to playing in the Garden."

I will miss Marcus Landry. His story of hard work and family values is something that builds team personality. Nate will be missed. Don't kid yourself, no matter how much D'Antoni grimaced, the little man brought unbridled passion each and every night. For that, he deserves our appreciation when he returns wearing an ugly green uni.

Meanwhile, JR Giddens reminds me of the talented but troubled Denver Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall. Same uniform digit, 15, which he will never get to wear in New York. Feb 2 knee surgery may keep him sidelined until Summer League. If healthy, and he regains some confidence, the young man could be interesting to watch mature at 6'5 and 215.

Will Eddie House keep the long socks?

Most of all, looking forward to Sergio. The three way artistry made this possible. Props to Donnie for making a desperately needed move at lead guard. Chris Duhon has become more passive than Charlie Ward on Lunesta. Another player who will need another uniform number. 10 is in the rafters. Can we please resist the temptation to label him SRod? He is not needed for his shot, which needs work. Just be aggressive, push the ball and keep your head up.

Brian Cardinal, box out. You are needed for defense.

"Paging Chris Bosh, Chris Bosh... please pick up the orange courtesy phone..."

From The 2006 Draft Report

Sergio is a player that loves the up-tempo pace. He rarely wastes a chance to score two quick and easy points. While this tendency might result (indeed, frequently results) in excessively rushing, he’s learning to control the rhythm of the game better. Still running whenever he thinks it can benefit his team, he’s now more aware of when the team needs to take a break, run down the shot-clock and involve other players in major creating roles. He’s a player who tends to absorb a huge chunk of the offensive game, a troubling issue for a youngster playing pros; but he’s now more comfortable sharing the ball, and more confident making decisions. He keeps taking risks, but shows better timing doing it.

Sergio might sometimes produce the wrong impression, the feeling that he’s out of control, and that he’s not that smart on the court. But he’s a highly intelligent player who only needs to find confidence and his rhythm playing the game in order to be effective. He’s absolutely nuts about basketball, which is easy to tell watching him play. Indeed he’s a guy who loves big games, the decisive moments, and who never hides when the ball burns for other players in clutch situations. He’s a winner who already has an impressive resume for a player so young, having enjoyed starting status in the Euroleague and ACB League with Adecco Estudiantes, being called up to the Spanish National Team, or earning MVP honors in the European Junior Championships while leading Spain to the gold. That’s valuable experience at the most demanding settings of international basketball.

At this point, we’re just starting to scratch the surface on what Sergio can become as a player. He has still a lot of potential left to be fulfilled, showing flaws that he should be able to fix as he matures and keeps working on his game.

Next move is Lebron's on July 1st. Otherwise, well ... future is bleak.

WindsorPl - this is not a one year process. Don't believe the hype.

Donnie will sign one juicy free agent in the off season. One. I'm cool with anyone but Joe Johnson.

The 2011 free agent class (the latest that Eddy drops from the books) will finalize the Knicks revised starting 5.

Don't buy into the chatter about 2 max free agents. I'm with Andrew, the fix is in for 2011, not 2010.

Just remember the projected completion date for the renovations being completed at Madison Square Garden and a fun playoff run.

I want to believe it earl, I really do. But Jeffries and Curry's were expiring in 2011 anyway, why trade Hill and the 2 picks to get Jeffries off the cap this year? To me, there is only one logical conclusion, so Donnie can tell Lebron this July, pick a sidekick and he is covered.

That's exactly why this happened. LeBron James and the other FA's weren't going to come here to play with David Lee and Danilo Gallinari. Donnie Walsh HAD to clear the second MAX FA slot or the 2010 plan cannot be possible.

iSergio - close your eyes and forget everything you have read about the Knicks. Forget about the Lebronomania. Forget Real GM and any fantasy league you have ever dreamt about signing up for.

This is a reality checker. Donnie Walsh has simply positioned the NYK franchise for a dramatic change. Of course, we all have preferences. The head man wants the Knicks to get it right. David Stern knows that a vibrant franchise in New York and Los Angeles is great for crossing time zones and bonus ratings. The media needs the eyeballs so it feeds speculation of any available rumor.

Don't get caught up in the impatience to solve the structure of the roster because these are still people, not trading cards. Donnie knows that better than anyone who posts here. The human element is unpredictable and different as fingerprints. The challenge is to get the puzzle to fit.

For me, the x-factor is how much allure New York as a brand holds for a top tier player. Forget the money. What will be the criteria or the deciding factor?

The point of separation that makes a move worthwhile?

A ring?

Quality of life?

Endorsements?

Being dapped up by Jay-Z or Spike?

or simply being on the world's brightest stage?

Speculation is fun and everyone wants to be The Answer Man. But there is only one Answer Man and even he is chillin.

Can Danilo Gallinari play center?

Not necessarily so. I'm intrigued by T-Mac. I'm thinking that Donnie has seen him and what he is capable of. If he brings any reminent of his game, then Joe Johnson will not be the target. Picture this:

Sergio -PG
T-Mac - SG/SF
Chandler - SF/SG
Gallo - PF
Amar'e - C

Such a line-up takes us into the second round, easily. Only one max player with gobs of money for future moves

Sangfroid - nice call

David Lee up front could be a nice alternative. Gallo slides to sixth man.

Just having Sergio makes me smile.

Addition By Subtraction

No more kvetching over Larry Hughes minutes or his unstylish zero digit

No more hand wringing over how much time Jordan Hill needs to develop a post move

No more Jared Jeffries intangibles being more important than his tangibles

No more D'Antoni scowling at Nate, or Nate scowling back

No more Duhon once the Garden starts clamoring for more Sergio

Life am good

But damn, the Knicks STILL need three more guys taller than 6'9

Jared Jeffries (in)tangibles were so intangible they were invisible.

Panos - once again, you are so sadly mistaken

In the Bizarro Knicks universe life am always good

In his retrospective mood, is is tangible how much Tracy McGrady wants to play on a winner.

That, my fellow Knicks brother in arms, is a good thing.
