Ok say at the end of the 2011 season Knicks and Rockets miss the playoffs but Knicks have the better record. Say Yao or K-Mart....one them still manages not to stay healthy and Knicks only land a moderate Free Agent(Gay). Knicks finish the season 36-46 Rockets finish 32-50. Knicks finish with the 10th worst record in the league and Rockets finish with the 8th worst. Lottery selection day comes and Knicks land Top 3 selection, Rockets get bumped to 9th........That 2011 draft better be 10 players deep at a minimum

Rockets get the better of the picks unless it's the #1 in any scenario

hou is on 3rd... 11 was top 1 protected or was that 2012?

the FA signing alone would be awful as "reward" for these trades...

let's just put it this way... the only thing we got to look forward to is Lebron this summer... just make sure you pray, keep your fingers crossed, throw some salt over your shoulder, avoid walking under all ladders, stay away from all mirrors, carry a rabbit's foot & 4 leaf clover in your pocket at all times until the summer rolls around.

The 2011 pick is Top 1 protected.... so Rockets can have any pick that isn't #1 overall. So if we land in the Top 3 but not #1 overall Rockets will be

So in essence, Morey can trade his pick with another team and still use that pick to swap with the Knicks?

no, i think it has to be HOU's pick... he can't deal w/the Lakers & get their pick & swap that with ours.

But if they own the Lakers pick from a trade made in season wouldn't that be Houston's pick since the Lakers aren't restricted by a caphold?

i think the swap rights are only for HOU's pick... if they trade that pick they effectively would lose their swap rights... at least that's how i understand the trading of swap rights
