We have 20.5M in committed salary next season. (Curry+Rookies)

So, what is the cap for next year?

Also, if you waive 9M of fatty's 11M in front of his face next July he will take that and RUN because he is BROKE.

That'd put us down to 18.5M committed salary.

In very good shape.

Don't forget the capholds.

Which would of course be renounced....the second we had a big signing to make.

Yup. Sergio and Tmac are going to be renounced.

that's not how it works. someone must pay curry $2 mil to play for them to remove that from the cap figure.

Likely, but also consider them signing for small $ amounts that don't impact the max signings.

Is there a deadline to renounce their rights?

Andrew right now we don't have enough for even 2 max deals. Anything above the minimum hurts that even more.

They won't because Max Salary is $17mil per Max. If we want Lebron and Bosh they will eat up the $34mil. I don't understand why we're having a difficult time with this. We also don't have the MLE to use because it has to be renounced to give us maximum cap space.

maybe in summer curry is traded for a slightly smaller contract money wise but longer in years for a team looking for future salary cap relief.

The cap hold for McGrady would be huge, so there is no why we don't renounce his rights. We might resign Sergio if we can get him for $3-$4 million dollars. We can probably do a sign and trade with Toronto to give Bosh a max contract as well as Lebron.

We don't even have that kind of wiggle room.

A Max player is entitled to 30% of whatever the Cap is set to. Let's say the cap doesn't dip as much as feared and settles at $55mil. 30% of $55mil is $16.5mil roughly $17mil exactly what I stated a few posts back. $16.5mil *2(Max Free Agents) is $33mil. $33mil + $20mil is $53mil. That leaves $2mil to play with. Not to mention Chandler is eligible for a Max Extension this fall. We have no room to improve the team because we're capped out and no future picks to barter.....

Which all makes buying out FATASS very important. Just do it. He has to pick up his option first in July and then we can buy him out. You waive 9M in front of his broke ass he will take it and RUN.

That would give us what we needed (after we waive the rights to all our expired players) to sign 2-max if that is indeed Donnie's actual plan (we dont know).

What I find interesting is the guy who orchestrated the Magic being able to sign 2 max FAs in Hill/TMac ---- is none other than our Capologist hired by Walsh last year: John Gabriel.

The man knows numbers. He might know how to **** up a team as a GM, but, he knows numbers.

Yes, signing 2 Max players doesn't give you much to work with but thats no guarantee that is going to happen. How about 1 Max and 1 12M player? Think someone may take slightly less to play with Lebron? Could happen.

I think one of the likely things that will happen this summer is that Player X will sign with the knicks and after it is clear Player X intends to sign with us, Player X's old team will do a sign and trade with us - possibly for DLee or Harrington or whoever. If we can do what Toronto did with Hedo, we can avoid going under the cap and retain our LLE and MLEs.

This is the problem. I don't see Lebron going on July 1. I see him taking his time. So you basically have to have a piece waiting for him not the other way around.

David Lee is a UFA. He doesn't have to wait for anything. The Knicks will have to renounce his bird rights. To be able to sign two max free agents. Much like Orlando had to with Darko.

David Lee is going to the Nets because they aren't going to get Bosh or Amare.

At the end of day I dont feel Lebron is going to leave a CURRENTLY title contending team for a team built out of spare parts. Cleveland is going to have 15 million in expiring contracts this summer and the MLE to play with.

I think everyone (teams and players) will be waiting on Lebron.
