I don't even know if it's a tradeable commodity anymore. It might not now that it's finalized. It still may be. But we'd be dumb to trade it since it's saving Dolan MILLIONS of dollars. If we traded it for a guy making 10M dollars then we're spending 10M dollars that we didn't have to and we're saved from doing. So I doubt it would be traded.

In the end, it's over, Mobley is a 2010, and he's off the books. AND...saves our owner around what was it 10M dollars? For insurance is paying that to Mobley not us anymore.

but with the Knicks being over the cap isnt it a dollar for dollar fine for being over the cap, so that 9m is like 18 mil??

It's a bad thing. Cuttino was going to be part of the core of the team. Having to exempt him is a bad sign. Now Boston or some other team can sign him, and we'll really regret having let him go.

That part I am unsure of but something wants me to say that the retired player is not part of the luxury tax equation. Their contract still counts on the cap and you still owe them the contract (or insurance does as in this case) but it is not a luxury taxable contract.
