i wonder if the 800k trade exception that we'll receive is part of the reason for this deal?

According to Fraud, Cardinal will be waived so the knicks can accommodate a trade with the celtics for nate.

truth... who cares that we spent $7 million on Darko's salary this season & he was never used? as long as MDA has 1 less guy to give him dirty looks in the lockerroom it's a no brainer

dude, not for nothin but I don't think its the locker room MDA's worried about.
Didn't want to meet Darko and his shady Serbian mobster friends in a dark alley.
MDA'd be getting Darko'ed in the mouth.

Funny first line!

http://www.knicksfan.net/?p=3226&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+knicksfan/feed+(The+Knicks+FanBlog)

In one of the least consequential trades in the history of professional basketball, ESPN’s Chad Ford (who else?) reports that the Knicks have sent Darko Milicic to Minnesota in exchange for Brian Cardinal, presumably to save a couple of million dollars worth of luxury tax.

Update: In my haste to post the news of this blockbuster, I overlooked the critical point that the Knicks plan to immediately waive Cardinal freeing up his roster spot for an unbalanced trade.

Essentially, the Knicks acquisition of Cardinal, which Ford reports will save the Knicks $1.8 million, is the equivalent of a buyout of Darko without having to go through the negotiations. A shrewd play by Donnie.

Actually a smart move by Donnie even though very small move. Got to give him credit.

he's correcting his own mistake here... but i would lay the blame for Darko not being used on MDA, i don't think DW traded for him knowing he'd get no playing time.

it was utterly inconsequential. they took a flier on him to see if he fit the system and he didn't. we would've been paying qrich this year if not darko.

saving $1.8M according to chad ford, who must still share an apartment with darko, is not inconsequential.

We save a decent piece of money which Donnie can entice Walsh to let him do more.

Darko wasn't playing and wasn't happy. Cardinal will be waived to make room for the Nate trade.

I'd say it was a good job here.

There is no mistake here. Walsh has done well not simply cutting players.

Instead of cutting Malik he took a flier on Wilcox to see if there was something there. Did the same with Q/Darko. Did the same with Jerome(tt)/Hughes<--which Walsh admitted was a mistake.

That's good business. Rather than just waste the player try to get anything out of him.

Doing the same with Nate. Rent House/Giddens, see if they're of any value, and if not no big deal - versus just letting Nate walk and sulk and be upset the rest of the year (his reps said they pushed this).

Agree. Also the Q for Darko trade, we also saved a couple of million $ in that trade as well.

I really hope Darko gets a chance to play in Minny. Good luck to him.
