I am not going to say McGrady will be able to be what he once was. But this article on TSC Blogs is pretty interesting. It gives hope of the possibilities. It would be great to catch lightning in a bottle and keep him with the big FAs we can get this summer.

At the end of the day though, I am realistic and know this is just to get rid of Jared Jeffries and nothing more.

If we get him we have enough cap for two max players and about 5.5mil.

Say Lebron and Bosh. If Tmac wants a career its never going to be at max money or even close unless he can sustain a healthy presence for two years.

He gets a two year deal with us for 11 mil over two years.

Why? This is based on the fact he looks good and getting a healthy knee.

My thinking is we do what the yankees do. Keep the guy healthy all year. Let him sit, cut his minutes but come playoff time he is back in the rotation playing hard.

Microfracture takes time. THink Dice. He is not the high flyer anymore, but Tmac does not have to do that for us. He can be Allan Houstan for us. Lebron can take the beating inside but Tmac is the money perimeter. This makes Wilson expendable in trade. You keep Gallo.

Why Gallo? I don't know what this kid turns into but in a MDA game he will get minutes at three positions.

Thats my dream and why Tmac fits.

Give up the no. 1 pick in 2012 with a top ten protection. give rockets 3 mil to pay for Jeffries contract. Hell. it ain't my money! oops, it is, I own some mSG!

That part is not true.

If we get McGrady, we just barely might be able to offer two max contracts (assuming we renounce all players' rights). See below link for more details:

http://offthedribble.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/16/behind-the-numbers-the-knicks-mcgrady-and-the-cap/?scp=1&sq=Larry%20Coon&st=cse

If we do trade for McGrady, what we can do is keep David's rights and then use around $21.5 million on one max contract and have around $5 million to spend on another player. Once that is done, you could go back over the cap to resign Lee. But we will not have enough cap to outright offer the max to 2 free agents and then have room for another player.

That of course is one big reason why Walsh feels he has to make this deal happen because as we stand right now, we don't even have enough cap to keep Lee at a fair price and get LeBron.

"This is a very cautious situation that we're in. You have to be conservative in terms of using your assets and using them wisely. We're building for the future." - Zeke (I guess not protecting a first round pick is being conservative)

It would be nice to see if T-Mac has any juice left. But as Nolad said, he doesnt need to be the explosive star he once was. He has a money jumper and is a good passer. If he can focus on that and play within his abilities he can still be very special. Think Larry Johnson post back injury. He focused on what he could do and excelled.

As for keeping him in the future, it would be nice but I would rather see if we can get our two stars first, not a bad fall back if we need to buy one more year for currys contract to expire.
