Now dont get me wrong, I love our little ADHD spark plug & his off the charts athleticism, but his winning the Dunk contest 3X has made it really obvious how wack the whole thing really is.
If the league cant the big guns like LeBron & Kobe to do battle mano a mano then why not use the whole texting fad to give the fans a voice on crowning a real dunk champion during the actual All-Star game???

TEXT (1) for LeBRON

TEXT (2) for D.Wade

TEXT (2) for Kobe

We did get a chance to text the winner. But it was a pretty lame display. Not like John Barry from the foul line.

It's not Nate's fault that the contestants this year were awful. The last few years it's been pretty entertaining. This was by far one of the worst ever. There was also a lack of star power to this years event. The only real name was Nate!!!

the new dunk contest should be

a) the High dunk contest..keep raising the rim

b) feature everyone trying to dunk on Shawn Bradley.

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

none of those dunks are even close to being as good as what Nate threw down in the dunk contest... those guys should just man up & compete & get this contest back to what it once was when guys like Jordan, Nique, Spud, Vince, T-Mac, Francis, etc. would

yeah he & his handlers backed out at the last minute but some of his in game dunks were sicker than anything Ive seen in the last 3 or 4 official contests. I love the idea of making it live as an actual in game experience, because as we all know it's much more impressive when you dunk in someone's face (w/your nuts dangling over their ear, much like I did in the last UK summer pick-up game...isnt that right DJ :-) than when you do it w/o dribbling in an empty gym.

Big guns don't want to do anything anymore. Bunch of primadonnas.

Wasn't it LeBron one year who said he'd do it if he was paid $1M?

Didn't Tyrus Thomas also say the same thing?

I'm pretty sure there was another high profile player that said the same thing. I want to say it was Kobe but I don't know if it was.

Spoiled brats is what they are.

Shannon Brown and Gerald Wallace were absolute JOKES out there. Derozan had the dunk of the night (off the side of the backboard pass by a teammate) and Nate had one real good one (the reverse was just MEAN)

But other than that it was trash.

In fact the whole AS Weekend was garbage. I missed Rookie-Soph but heard Gallo was nothing. HORSE was an utter JOKE and needs to go away. Skills challenge was terrible except for Nash being a character.

In fact I think the 3PT Shootout might have been the best event overall because it was so close. 18-17-17-15-15 for the first round was excellent.

Pierce torching the 2nd round was great.

...the AS Game was pretty decent though. Especially when Wade and Bron started ripping the rims down (and, as said, why don't they do the dunk contest!?!?!?)

no i'm not kidding... i didn't find those dunks all that impressive by NBA standards... i've seen guys get posterized much worse than that, like the VC dunk over Weiss for example... now that's what i'd call a "10" dunk... & i didn't say i thought Nate's dunks were a 10 either, just that the examples you picked weren't all that great to make your point... especially that Kobe dunk.

I don't get the logic behind the stars saying that they'll get worn out. Doing five dunks is going to wear you out in some way that impacts the season? Really? Its not taking 40 home run swings at MLB's all-star game... we're talking 5 dunks that you'd probably try in the All-Star game anyway.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I think the real problem is, Lebron is a chump. He should have saved the contest. He made a big declaration last year and then pulled out. He is one of the best dunkers in the NBA and its a right of passage for a great player to win it. Jordan, Nique, Kobe, Carter. If he doesn't win it's embarrassing, but seriously what are the chances.

i think Lebron would have participated... he even had Shaq calling out D Wade, Kobe, Vince & all the other dunkers to make it the best dunk contest ever, but apparently none of them were interested or couldn't participate because of injury... what glory would Lebron get from beating out Lil Nate, Shannon Brown & Demar Derozan?

Sorry...didnt have time to search through all of YouTube's archives ut Im really just trying to make a larger point that it would be a hot idea to make this a real time contest with 3-4 dunks being chosen by the middle of the third quarter & the viewing audience being able to see replays on TV or on-line & immediately being able to satisfy their urge to vote (sort of like dunk porn).

PS - I also think it might raise the level of defense in the game cause nobody would want to get posterized for all posterity

So how did Nate personally kill it? He was great in the previous years, he's just run out of ideas. I think everybody has. We've seen it all, the human body can only do so much.
