Cavaliers star LeBron James said he wouldn't talk about free agency during All-Star weekend, but he did drop a hint in an interview.

"It's all about winning," said James when asked about the free-agent process. "It's going to be a great summer -- a very thought-out summer -- and I'm going to make the decision that's best for myself and my family."

Cleveland currently has the NBA's best record at 43-11, while the Knicks, who have long been linked to the free-agent-to-be, are 19-32.

LeBron James did his best Rodney Dangerfield impression on Saturday, claiming that the Cavaliers don't get enough respect for their success.

James wasn't happy that Knicks forward David Lee was named over Shaquille O'Neal as a replacement for East guard Allen Iverson.

"It's an ongoing story about our franchise. We've always kind of been the butt of a joke -- before me being drafted and other guys coming along," LeBron said.

He is the only Cavalier participating in All-Star Weekend.

"Last year it took three injuries for Mo [Williams] to be an All-Star when we were the best team in the league also," James said. "So once again we're the best team in the league and Mo got no consideration. Shaq got no consideration. We also got three of the five top 3-pointers in the league [Williams, Daniel Gibson, Anthony Parker], and we have no shooters in the 3-point shooting contest (last) night.

"That shows just how much respect we get. At the end of the day, we just earn it and just go out and play basketball."

i think that's quite interesting. he feels a responsibility and pride towards the cavs.

when you go ALL IN on any one single plan, you are taking a very very high risk. lebron is a risk worth taking but it wasn't the only option.

A little extra. I never said we should have kept Crawford and Zach. I have no issue with trading our guys. I have an issue when a supposedly "rebuilding" team is trying to make the playoffs. Makes zero sense to me. I know we don't have a pick this year but we did last year and we were steadily trying to make the playoffs. Rebuilding teams get high lottery picks by sucking. Mediocre teams get low lottery picks by not sucking enough.

How did we go all in?

I hate repeating myself and I know you've read my posts so I'm just going to make it short. We put an end to the problems of the past and the poor business practices that got us in this mess. We can start brand new from scratch. That is a blessing right there whether or not Bron or Bosh or Wade come here.

Why is this such a huge thing now?

It's like... we score LeBron and we're the best team in the world. LeBron stays in Cleveland and we need to murder Walsh and Dantoni and all their family and burn down MSG and gun down the entire franchise's remaining players and nuke NYC and then kill ourselves.

Seriously, that's getting pretty damn OLD.

I question people's true allegiance to the Knicks when I read these posts. It's almost like some of you PRAY we strike out so you can bitch and moan and so OH OH I WAS RIGHT TAKE THAT!!!!.

And given that possibility maybe you ought to stop rooting for the team or bother talking about them on a Knick-Only forum. This kind of chatter fits right in on RealGM where trolling is considered cute. But, not here.

When peeps talk about how much winning the Cavs do versus the Knicks, it seems they need to be reminded that Lebron actually PLAYS FOR THE CAVS. They would be an under-20 win team without him, same as us. ANd our core mixed with his domination will be at last as good as the Cavs. Why should he move? The City, The Garden, Madison Avenue, the chance to reclaim hoops dynasty in the place it matter most, chance at his own network, partial ownership of the team.

Do we need more reasons? Nothing's certain, but to say he will stay in Cleveland because THEY have so many wins is absurd. HE is why they have so man wins.

So why would he need to help the Knicks. What allegiance does he have to them? He said he likes to play in MSG, I don't recall him saying he likes the fact that the Knicks play in MSG. Other than being a Yankee fan and friends with Jay Z, I never saw the NY connection.

I am starting to feel the same way. Its like some people would rather have an "I told you so moment" than have Lebron.

We really don't know what Dolan is prepared to offer Lebron, but I would assume it's gonna be substantial. Whatever other percs we can legally offer to Lebron and his PEOPLE, you can bet that we will be offering it. It would be worth the price. New York has so much to offer outside of basketball that we can't imagine how much can be added as fringe benefits.

This idea that it has to be a winning situation is also dubious, since this team would jump many levels just by adding him and who said that's all we'd be able to add? We're gonna be a winning team with him on board, that's guaranteed. Who is he playing with now that's so special that we can't find an equally capable player to bring in here? Lebron's PER is off the charts, cuz he does so much. He's in Jordan territory PER wise right now. He's worth 2 NBA players all by himself!!! The league avg. PER is 15.00 and James is at 31.64!!! He's totally worth taking a shot at even if it meant stalling for 2 years to get the chance, cuz he's on top of the league in terms of production and he makes his team better without a doubt.

It has been stated that if LeBron comes to New York that Cablevision will offer him HIS VERY OWN CABLE CHANNEL to do whatever he wants on it.

Don't know how much that would entice him....but it is true that the Dolans are prepared to create a LeBron James Channel.

Besides that think of the endorsements. Think of the billboards. Think about how he would truly be the KING he claims to be if he came to New York.

He's not getting that in Cleveland and I truly believe his ego is so big that he'd rather be a celebrity than a winner. If he came to NY it may take a year or two but we could easily build a winning team around him with the money we would be willing to spend.

LeBron is big business. He wants to expand. He's already at his peak in the Cleveland market.

If he wants more, which I really think he does, then he will leave.

And, again, you take LeBron off the Cavs you cut 20-25 wins off them immediately. You add LeBron to this team you add 20-25 wins immediately.

So this BS of "Oh he won't go to a losing team." is pathetic because....without him, Cleveland is a LOSING TEAM. And you add him to the losing Knicks and you got the winning Knicks an instant top 4 EC team.

So, well, these little fluff comments are just that: narrow sighted trash.

Damn, didn't see your post before I posted.

Exactly.

Why this is ignored I'll never know.

I also love the "CLE can give him 30M more!"

And those people that say that ignore the fact that it's a 6 year CLE deal versus a 5 year NY deal. The difference is the NY deal has 10% raises per year and the CLE deal would have 12.5% raises.

But you know what? Whatever extra he gains over an identical 5 year period by staying in CLE would be trumped 10 fold by the money he'd make by coming to New York.

And he knows this. Everyone knows this. Except those that don't want the Knicks to land LeBron. Which sadly includes quite a few Knick fans!!!

He can also sign a 3-year max deal with us and then re-up with a new 6 year max deal. This would further negate whatever small amount of money he'd lose by signing here versus Cleveland. Again, that loss would be completely wiped out 10 fold or more by endorsements by being a Knick.

A Lebron James Knick jersey becomes #1.
A Lebron James Knick shoe becomes #1.
Lebron James endorsing New York area products becomes #1.
Lebron James endorsing Nike and other products becomes #1 in New York.

The guy would cash in like nobodies business.

He'd be like Tiger. Who one year earned 4M in winnings and 70M in endorsements.

So all this stupid crap about winning and losing teams - and "oh CLE can offer him 30M more" <---which isn't true. It's like 6M more over an identical 5 year contract.

Is just that. STUPID.

See I don't get any of that other side deal stuff. First I'm not sure if that is even allowed in the CBA. Maybe if this the 80s and even 90s I would think he would like to be in NY to push his agenda but we are in a fabulous global market. Where you don't need to be in a certain spot to do anything. Where they broadcast his sneaker commercials not only in Cleveland but NY right now. Sell his jersey in China. What NY area products does he need to endorse. The guy is selling people insurance for pete's sake. Let me put it like this. Lebron is on the television more than Jeter is NYC. It will always come back to the fact that NY needs him more than he needs NY. The fact that some are pointing out these facts shouldn't bother anyone. Why people are taking it personal is another matter?

Every time i hear Lebron reiterate that " Its All About Winning " it becomes evident to me what he really means when he says it. For some reason most think that when he refers to " winning" he means the Knicks potentially or any other team thats making a run for him has got to be under a winning condition. When it really has nothing to do with the knicks. He is the winning condition. Instead he means winning in Cleveland, his home state. He is clearly on the quest of redemption for Cleveland by winning them, their first NBA Championship. If he accomplishes that this year then there is no question he is coming to NYC. On the other hand if the Cavaliers don't win this year then he ain't going nowhere.

Thats why he keeps saying that his decision will be based on winning.
I know must of you think that our chances are better if he doesn't win this year, but reality is {He Wins Championship 2010 = Lebron goes to NYC} {He don't Win = Lebron Stays a Cav.

We've been down this road before. It doesn't mean anything until it does, which is in July. You might be right about his motivations, but it ain't done until he signs an extension.
