After tonight's game against the Nets we'll know what this current Knick team is all about. But even if they play well and win, I still feel the Knicks need to make certain trades to rebuild the cap and the core of their team.

Now if Allan Houston can get back on the Court I would try to package him (3yrs left on contract), Kurt Thomas(will opt out after season), and Howard Eisely(3yrs)
to the Houston Rockets and give Van Gundy the shooter in Allan to compliment the low post game of Yao Ming. Kurt Thomas will give them an ideal power forward to match up against the big time power forwards in the west. Eisely gives them a back up 1 & 2 who needs a change of scenery. And all these players played for Van Gundy and know his system.

The Knicks would receive Cuttino Mobley (2yrs left), Kelvin Cato (2 years left), and Mo Taylor (3yrs).
The Knicks receive an athetic, exciting player, who is a tough defender in Cuttino Mobley, Kelvin Cato a back up C, so we don't have to play Mutumbo 37 minutes a night and who can be a very good center in the east for a long time. Mo Taylor a post up player the knicks have been lacking for years.

The key to this deal is that the Knicks free themselves of Houston's & Eisely's contracts and only take on one bad one in Mo Taylor's.
This deal could put the Rockets over the top in the west and this deal would enable the Knicks to keep Ward and McDyess for the rest of the season and use their cap relief to go after Kobe Bryant in the offseason.
If the Knicks can pull off a Van Horn and Moochie Norris to Portland for Rasheed it would put the Knicks in an even better position to go after Kobe. But I don't think Portland would do that.

So then we wait 2 years to get our superstar when McGrady becomes a free agent.
I wouldn't mind having either one but I think I would wait it out for McGrady when VanHorn's contract is easier to trade.

As for the these rumors about the Knicks going after Darius Miles, if they can send Harrington and Doleac to the cavs, then I would do the deal. This would be another young player with potential to add to the mix.
If that's the case, let's look at a Knicks line-up with only their young prospects:
PG- Frank Williams
SG- Milos Vujanic
SF- Darius Miles
PF- Mike Sweetney (could be traded), Leon Smith (if he signs)
C - Macej Lampe (who can play 3 or 4 as well)

Not to mention future draft picks, that's exciting !!

If the Knicks utilize the 2 year plan to wait on McGrady (who Isiah drafted) hopefully some of their younger players would have developed enough to complement McGrady and put the Knicks back among the NBA elite where they belong.

McGrady or Kobe is the superstar player the New York Knicks must have if they want to challege for an NBA Championship.

Since I've gotten no reply on my topic I'll elaborate some more. Cuttino Mobley would be the top 6th man in the league if he came off the bench. Mo Taylor has gotten a bad rap for being a power forward who can't rebound. Well, luckily we have a small forward in Van Horn who is a good rebounder to make up for it. Cato is a big 7fter who is a defensive presence similar to Mutumbo, and if the Knicks plan on using Mutumbo for a playoff run this year or next they can't play him close to 40 minutes every night.

Some may argue what's the sense of getting a low post player like Taylor if your trading away your best jumpshooter. Van Horn and Charlie Ward are pretty good shooters themselves and the knicks can always pick up another shooter. I believe Milos is a decent shooter and hopefully he will be on the Knicks by next season.

Kurt Thomas is a valuable player to have on a team like the Rockets who are more advanced than the Knicks at this stage. He is going to be a free agent and there is a very good possibility Kurt will sign with a different team next season and we get no compensation.

The Rockets have to take Eisey because they are getting players like Houston and Thomas that will help them make a push for an NBA championship and they do need a back up point guard.

As for Van Horn, I should've said a future trade of Van Horn and/or Shandon Anderson. The way Anderson has been playing he would be a valuable member of a playoff team, but his contract will be more tradable next season than this season.

I was an advocate of bringing in Rasheed Wallace but I can live with McDyess and Ward for the rest of this season, at least.

Even with trading possibly our two best players, the Knicks could still make the playoffs this year, but most importantly lay the foundation in bringing Kobe or McGrady to NY.

What are you going to do with mobley, cato, and taylor. Three average players who have done nothing in this league. The only players I would want from the Rockets are Ming and Francis and they are untouchables. The problem with the Knicks are people like you who think they can fix the Knicks. The problem isn't a quick fix. The move the Suns made should be the move the Knicks should be making. Clearing cap space to get a superstar like Kobe. They should have kept Dice and Ward to free cap space next year and try to trade for Rashead Wallace to free up even more money. Marbury is a very good talent who will never win anything. He's 26 years old and now on his fourth team. I think that say's it all. Stick to watching sportscenter Tlover because you don't know what your talking about.
