Maybe playing Jeffries is a better strategy to win games than playing Hill. Maybe playing Nate/Hughes/Duhon gives us a better chance to win than playing Douglas. But we're probably not going to make the playoffs and, if we did, we'd be out in the first round. Hill and Douglas need playing time to develop. Let them play significant minutes and abandon the joke that this team is capable of making the playoffs. Sorry, I had to do this.

I think the coach needs to move on. It took a month of winning at a .111 percent before the offense was tinkered with and ssol was no longer the focus. I think it might take mathematical elimination from the 8th seed before he plays the rooks over the expirings.

This team was never a playoff team and wasn't meant to be. That's just fan pressure.

They would still be in the actual race if they didn't blow the easiest part of their schedule to hell.

Things only get tougher from here.

Even if we somehow win enough games to get back within a game or two - anyone who looks at the March-April schedule can plainly see we are going to get destroyed.

Now, at this point, I think the recent lineup changes are more due to showing our players off as best we can for possible deadline trades.

After the deadline this franchise needs to wake up and play the kids and phase out or flat out cut some of the vets (Hughes).

However, as has been in the past, until mathematically eliminated, we don't do this, and by the time that happens (even the worst teams aren't eliminated until the final 2-3 weeks!) We always hear "Oh, well, I don't want to just throw them out there for 10 games it's disrespectful!"

*pulls out hair*

But, to clamor for a change now, isn't realistic. It will be come say the second week of March when we're 15 games under .500, the deadline is gone, and the playoffs are clearly gone.

Then you start to just sit or cut the expiring vets. We won't see this happen for another 5 weeks though.

Agreed. The veterans, sans Curry, have established their value. Either the Knicks will get something for them or not and there isn't going to be much variance of what comes back in a trade based upon performance.

Ride Chandler, Gallo, TD, and Hill--and Lee if he figures into the plans. Play Nate and Harrington a fair bit. Toss the remainder to Hughes/Jeffries/Duhon to maybe bait some scraps off another team's table.

We should be developing TD and Hill and offering every team in the league a package of Nate and Jeffries. Jeffries' new-found offense actually makes him an attractive player to a team that needs a multi-faceted defender and Nate is a top-flight sixth man if not asked to run the offense. I would even throw in $3 mill and a second round draft pick to get it done. The bottomline is that the best way to attract Lebron is to convince him that we can sign an entire team for him to play with. If we have enough cap room to sign Lebron and Bosh, both are more likely to come here.

the problem is that nate has veto power. no agent will let their player forgoe bird's rights unless it's to a team with crazy cap space.

Teams can still go over the cap to sign them to I think 125% of their current salary, so Nate can still get a contract in the $4-$5 million range, even if the team he is traded to has no cap space. Given that no team signed nate even though he could have been had for the MLE, I think Nate will agree to go to any team in a decent size market.

Nate & Lee lose their Bird Rights if they agree to be traded at this point, so any team that trades for them either needs to have the cap space to re-sign them at fair market value, or at the most they can use their MLE to sign them to a contract... in Nate's case, this has very little impact on his money since he won't be seeing much more than that to begin with... any acceptable playing situation for him should be fine... but in Lee's case, getting traded to any team w/o significant cap space serves him no real purpose.
