Ok, the good. He can shoot. He's 6'10". Maybe he's discovered a work ethic.

The bad: Bad hands, low bball IQ. Ok we knew this.

But, around the rim, where you'd expect a 6'10" lottery pick who is raw to be effective a la Maurice Speights or Anderson Varejao or even Chris Wilcox, Hill struggles. He's an okay athlete. But he isn't at all a top tier athlete, explosion wise.

He needs to mature into his body. Hill is the type of player that you really will not know what you have until probably year 3. He needs a summer of weightlifting and learning the offense, and then a season of experience. By that following summer, we will know whether Hill is the next Rasheed Wallace (without the mental issues) or the next Mikke Moore.

Hill is better skill wise than Chris Wilcox and has more offense than Varejao. Speights and Hill are about equal talent wise with Speights being more polished offensively and Hill being more athletic.

The thing is I dont see Hill getting way better.

My point is that he seems to not get a ton of lift when finishing around the hoop.

i've noticed a bit of that, he hasn't shown me the explosive hops when trying to finish around the hoop he showed in college as of yet, but he does get up for the boards... some weight training over the summer should help him bang down low & hold position, but i already see him doing a good job of that vs. bigger opponents.

& it's hard for him to show much of anything in the post when his teammates never pass him the ball when he's posting up down low or cutting to the basket.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Hill is in fact top tier talent athletically. The only guy in the draft that was on his level was Griffin. Hill has a sick no step vert, which if you watch him in a crowd you'd notice he gets higher and gets his hands on the ball faster. What keeps him from just raising up is probably a bit of apprehension in crowds. I think as his confidence grows and he realizes that he's capable of doing the things he did in college on this level, he'll be fine. He's playing with more guys his size or bigger now and that can mess with your self confidence. He isn't as over confident as a young Amare or Kenyon Martin was. But he is just as athletic.

My main feeling about him is that a lot of Hill's issues are just in his head. All the fading back instead of just going hard and smashin on guys. I think he'll get to the point where he realizes he's an elite athlete even on this level. Playing with a guy like Lebron would help, cuz I think he'd make sure to tell Hill to go hard and not put up weak shots.

It isnt that easy to raise up with a body on you. Guys like Griffin finish through contact. Griffin's athleticism is on another level.

Hill needs Oakley as a tutor, needs to learn to take his man's basket personally.
