Fredette has amazed me the last couple of years. He's from my home-town area and i used to play ball with him at camp and coached him one year. He was a solid all around player but i never saw him as a D1 player, let alone an nba prospect. In fact, there were a couple players at the camp that weren't D1 players either, but were better than him at the time. That being said, as good as he is i still have reservations about him, and i hope he makes it, but i can't see him being an nba player. I hope i'm wrong tho and would certainly love to see him on the Knicks with a second round pick. Definitely not 1st round tho.

"Jimmer Fredette is better than John Wall"... why do i have a feeling this thread will be bumped about a year from now?

Ahh, I'm only pullin' your chain a little Briggy.
Listen, what can you say about this kid's performance there. Monster. Wise and Fogg had no answer for him the whole game, and Fogg's a pretty good defender... He just kept coming. Don't know enough about him to comment on his whole game - certainly looks like he can shoot the ball though. Arizona head coach Sean Miller commented after that game that Fredette reminded him of Mark Price and that he thought this kid makes BYU a lock for the NCAA tourney. I don't know enough about him to know if a Mark Price comparison is justifiable but that's certainly big praise right there for a relatively unknown player.. Nic Wise has really disappointed this season so far. I really thought he was gonna turn the corner and have a stellar senior year but it hasn't gone that way. Looks like it's just a transition year for the entire program - new, young head coach, new philosophy, new players (and some of the rookies they brought in can play too like Derrick Williams & Solomon Hill, making the off year for the team look all the more puzzling)...No excuses though, I never would've thought the whole team would've played this poorly. I really expected Wise and Jamelle Horne to have big years. These two kids in particular has the ability and the physical gifts - very strange how they haven't really emerged as the leaders for them.. Wise is a little small and has had a down year, but my opinion of him hasn't changed all that much. I still like him and think he brings some good things to the table, like his great shooting stroke, quickness, passing, etc.. When you look around the NBA, there are plenty of players that really aren't all that great to be honest. Wise is certainly a better player than Chris Duhon for example.. |

Guys like Mark Price Steve Nash and John Stockton didn't exactly look like sure fire caliber NBA players either I wonder what BYU's record would nbe if they swapped out for John Wall---now that doenst mean anything to NBA--John Wall will be an excellent high caliber guard in the nBA--Im not stupid but this kid has an it factor that wont be measured until later on. the only reason i bring up Wise's name is because based off what i saw from him last year, he'd be a good pickup that could fill our needs at the PG spot that we can target with one of our 2nd round picks... i brought up names like Taj Gibson & Darren Collison last year for similar reasons, i thought they would have filled areas of need on this team.
haven't caught any ARI games this year so if Wise has struggled with his shooting then no longer having Jordan Hill & Chase Budinger around to play with might have a lot to do with it because he's trying to do too much... Wise isn't a high volume scorer but he gets to the foul line a TON & makes his FT's, & his on ball defense is very good regardless of what you might have seen in this 1 game vs. BYU... he's an awesome dribble penetrator that's fearless going to the hole. based off what i see from his statlines this year looks to me like he's been playing well... his shooting % has gone down but he's been scoring in double figures almost every game & his rebounds & steals have gone up from last year in less mpg... every game the Wildcats have lost this year, Wise has struggled shooting... that tells me he's a vital part of their team & when he gets it going, they usually win games, unlike some players on our team that put up stats that don't equate to W's. have never seen Jimmer Fredette play a game so i can't comment on who would be a better fit... all i know is John Wall is gonna be a star in the NBA & Nic Wise would be a player i'd want on our team anyday. just curious, what about Fredette's game other than his shooting would lead you to believe he's the best PG in college? all u can really see in this clip is him knocking down perimeter J's... do u think he projects as a Steve Nash/John Stockton, or is he more JJ Redick? i just ask cuz i know nothing about this kid's game.
i have seen John Wall play in a few games this year, & he looks like a sure fire star to me... it's true that he's got guys like Patterson & Cousins to play with who will probably go mid-late lottery, but u can't honestly watch Kentucky games & tell me John Wall isn't the star of that team... he makes that team go... i liked Patterson from last year & Cousins has impressed me this year... Cousins looks like a beast down low & made Ogilvy his bitch the other day vs. Vandy... wish we had a pick to take either one of those guys, then we could let David Lee walk w/a clear conscience & pair either one of them up with Jordan Hill in our frontcourt. It's pretty much every element to his game as a PG. Great vision leader good speed with the ball takes care of the ball IQ strength driving ability/ability to get to the foul line solid passer winner tremendous long and mid range shooter solid defender solid rebounder from the 1. I would say he is comparable to Steve Nash. If you look up Steve Nash's numbers at Santa Clara his sophmore and junior year--they nearly mirror Fredette's. RIP Crushalot😞
