Actually, getting rip for Curry is smart. Curry isn't gonna be moved anyway, so mind as well have a useful player in that salary slot. Plus Rip provides leadership to a degree.
On the flip side, getting rid Rip creates a leadership vacuum in Detroit and strong leadership is what you would need to keep Curry motivated.

I think that trade is more than doable. I don't see why the pistons would balk. The guy isn't a fit there and they need to move Ben Gordon into the starting lineup. It would also allow them to make a trade next season.
