It says that Denver has the right to switch 2nd rounders with the LA Clippers in 2010---does this mean we get to swap that Denver pick--I mean it seems like we should have that right and on the draftexpress website it has us picking 39 + 41 right now. Anyone know the 411?

we get the better of the Denver/LA second rounder, which right now is from LA. so yes, 39 and 41.

I don't know the real answer but it would seem logical that all provisions on the pick are transferred to the team who currently owns the pick.

So if we own the rights to the pick -- all the provisions associated with the pick would seem to belong to the Knicks.

In effect giving us the right to choose whether or not we want Denvers # 2 or we want the Clippers #2.

That's not bad. I was kind of looking at guys in the 55 range

He should be OK--55 would've been tight.

Well nbadraft.net has the #41 going to Toronto -- apparently the LAC owe Toronto a 2nd rounder. Does that affect us? It is a little confusing trying to figure out what supersedes what -- Denver owing us a 2 from the Balkman trade (which we'll inherit Denver's right to swap 2nd rounders with the Clippers) or the Clippers owing Toronto a 2.

I believe Toronto would get the lower pick and NY would get the higher pick. That arrangement is transferred along with the rights to the pick.

I didnt know we would have two high 2's. Unfortunately Im not in love with the guards in this draft--a position of need but if we have a mass exodus off the bench--that won't be a huge deal anyway--the draft is just one area where we can possibly improve. It seems like the good or decent PGs are small ish and the taller one's aren't very athletic. There is not a huge pool of 2 guards who are 6-5+ either. If I could use both picks to move up and get just one player I really liked--I would be happy with the outcome--this will be a true wait and see. Are guys like Greg Monroe Damion Jones Elias Harris going to slip to the lower 1st round early 2? That's what draftexpress is intimating/projecting but I think they are not going to be correct. If I walked out of the draft with Greg Monroe moving up from a position of 39 and 40--even if I used cash--that would be a coup. I could see Greg Monroe fitting in here nicely--but I also dont see him being there past 20 in fact I dont see him lasting pass 10.

You think Jeremy Lin is available at that spot?

Thats too high for him. I was thinking 55 ish but our pick is much higher now. I think he will need to finish out the season strong and show a better jumper when he gets to Portsmouth and the NBA camps. He might be a guy we can grab undrafted for our SL team--he's got nice size and athletic ability if they can project him at PG.

I looked at the second round pg's, and the pickin's are slim. We'd better look to save a few mil so that we can buy another late 1st rounder. I'm thinking something off the European table.

Donnie should use 1 of those pics to take Nic Wise... you guys will be happy w/him... plays the way we all want our PG to play, with cahones.

I like Wise, but I like Sherron Collins a little better. Just as good an outside shooter, Collins is a slightly bigger/stronger version. He's the little engine that has a lot to do with the success Kansas is having. Plus I got a soft spot for this kid - like most of these kids, not only did he come from a difficult situation growing up in the hood in Chicago with a father who was in trouble with the law from time to time but his first son, Sherron Jr., died of a lung infection when he was just a baby. Terrible tragedy which understandably contributed to his weight gain at one point. I mean I can't even imagine what he went though....This kid's been though a lot in his life and it's nice to see that he's bounced back...I think if we can add Collins as a playmaker and Greivis Vasquez with that second pick we would upgrade the backcourt significantly...

A realistic backcourt I wouldn't mind seeing next year would be:

Sherron Collins (Should be a nice little PG in the NBA in the Ty Lawson/Jameer Nelson mold. Might have to move up into the lower 1st round to get him.)
Wilson Chandler (He's come a long way. Love the better shot selection. Ball-handling and decision-making have improved as well. He's proved that he can handle playing the 2.)
Toney Douglas (Should be a capable combo guard for us next year.)
Greivis Vasquez (Big, smart and versatile, he can play both the 1 and the 2. Shooting percentages have been a concern but they're up this year.)
Antoine Wright (Would be a nice addition as a big SG/SF off the bench if the price is right.)
or
AD Vassallo (A 6'6" crafty 2-guard that can shoot the ball. MDA could make great use of this guy. Playing well in France right now.)

I could work with that.

I say if all else fails and we can't get our hands on the guards we really want, 2 other backcourt options I'd consider for next year that could come very cheap are Tyrese Rice and Jerel McNeal. Both went undrafted -- Rice is playing in Greece this year and isn't putting up big numbers but he had a very solid career at BC. Little lefty can score, stop and pop from anywhere, penetrate and distribute. Been reading a lot recently about how many of these smaller PGs are getting compared to Damon Stoudamire. Well out of all of them, Rice is probably the one who resembles Stoudamire the most IMO. Even bigger at 6' - 6'1". Mighty Mouse was only 5'10".

Between Rice & McNeal, Rice is more of a PG, but this kid McNeal can play and he too had a very nice career for himself at Marquette. No idea where he is now. Reminds me a lot of Toney Douglas only I think McNeal might actually be even smoother offensively. Definitely just as good a defender -- this guy was the Big East Defensive Player Of The Year a couple of years ago as a sophomore (averaged over 2 steals per game in all four seasons). Last year he was All Big East 1st team and an Associated Press 2nd Team All American. He also became the all-time leading scorer in Marquette history. Can definitely score the ball in a variety of ways including behind the arc (his 3 pt. shooting really improved last year making him even more dangerous). Not a natural PG but neither is Toney Douglas yet there's still hope for TD to function well enough at the point eventually. I could see the same thing for McNeal...McNeal's 6'3" which is even bigger than TD - that's adequate size for a combo guard. Wes Matthews didn't get drafted but he made the NBA and he wasn't even Marquette's best player - McNeal was. IMHO, both of these guys have the talent to play in the NBA. You guys see some of the garbage teams are carrying on their rosters these days?? I rest my case... I just hope the Knicks keep all their options open and look under every stone when it comes to trying to improve the club. I wouldn't mind seeing one or both of these guys get invited to summer league next year. Heck, I wouldn't mind seeing both guys added to the team right now.

haven't seen Collins at all but if you're high on him i'm all ears... i think we need a PG who can penetrate into the lane & create for himself & other players... from what i've seen Nic Wise can definitely do that... i harp on him cuz he makes big shots & is effective in the P&R, something MDA clearly likes his PG to do in this system... plus he plays defense, which is key for whoever's gonna replace Duhon next year... i just want someone who plays under control but has an edge about them... from the games i've watched, Wise fits the persona that i'd like to see in our next PG... plus i think he can easily be had w/1 of our 2nd round picks.
