Realistically you would have to look at the number 42
That would force us to go 25-14

Possible--yes--realistic--no

What tie-breakers are you talking about?

We tied the season series with Charlotte, and we're tied with Chicago too, so the tie-breaker won't be head2head.

Not possible without a major PG upgrade.

IIRC, the tie breaker after head-to-head is division record (which doesn't really make sense, IMO, but oh, well).

Not possible, PERIOD. We're done fellas. Come'on now.

We have a six game stretch here where, if we don't play like fools, we CAN go 4-2 over it.

After that have you guys looked at the schedule ahead? Have you?

We are going to get MURDERED. The easy part is over and done with after these six games pass. Then we're back to an average schedule of which a bad team will play sub .500 in - and then our last 20 games are absolutely BRUTAL where we could easily get torched to the tune of 5-15 over them.

The pipe dream is long gone even if we do go 4-2 over the next six.

It wasn't about this season anyway so I don't really understand the nail biting and prayer going on over sneaking into the 8th seed with 38 wins and getting torched 4-0 in the first round. I just don't. This goes beyond just being a fan of the team. It seems to be an unhealthy obsession. Every win we're playoff bound and every loss Donnie needs to make a trade.

Jeez, guys, it's about building a future winning team. The building of that team begins this summer when we've finally shed enough salary born off of Layden and Isiah's mistakes to allow us to start building a new team. Come back down to earth will yas? Stop doing this to yourselves. Just watch game to game and see how the young players improve or don't improve and wait for the summer to come along.

Pretty much, although I think just an upgrade would do wonders for this squad.

So you don't think making the playoffs will show Free Agents that there is a good young core here with playoff experience?

i would say you are right for 99% of the teams in the league. this doesnt apply to teams like the lakers or knicks (and throw miami in there too) b/c of the city these franchises are based in. a good example is the thunder. young squad, on the rise, but would a lebron or cp3 or amare or wade etc go to play in oklahoma city? the stage of playing in a big market is attractive on its own. the other markets need to do a whole lot more enticing for FA's to go play there.

I agree we don't need it, but it can only help our chances to land a big star if we have the playofs on our resume as well.

Players are more attracted to situations where this is success and I think making the playoffs this year could really help in attracting free-agents.

like i said above, generally i agree with this statement. but not when it copmes to the knicks. the knicks could finish with 30 wins this year, not make the playoffs, then come july...BAM, you get lebron. i guarantee the flood gates for FA's will open up then. hard to argue that no?

Of course if Lebron comes here people will just start calling us and asking for deals. But that is a big IF and winning could have gone a long ways towards the Knicks developing a Plan if Lebron doesn't come to NY. Whereas now it's Lebron or nothing

No, because we are loaded with 2010 players who won't be here next year. So if we DID make the playoffs, which we clearly won't IMO, the players that would have done it, won't be here anyway, so why would any FA base their choice on that?

We waited so long for cap room and this summer we have it. Let's see what DW and MDA do then. I think this team has a nice young core. They should all be playing more. That is TD, Hill and Landry. N8 should be traded for a pick and an expiring. DLee needs to stay and be resigned. Once summer comes, Curry and Jefferies are expiring contracts, they can be included in S&T deals. Plus under the cap, salaries do not have to match, that gives NY some room too.

The next 2 years will be fun building a dynasty with LBJ,Gallo, Lee and friends.

Yes, I drank the kool-aid.

That isn't kool-aid that is an understanding at the future plan at hand.

Kool-aid drinking would be if 18 months into the 2010 plan the team still stinks and you still stand by the plan at hand as if it will succeed "if only we get that last missing piece!". Then yeah, that's kool-aid drinking!

The only players we rely on that won't be here are Duhon, Harrington, and Nate. And we don't really rely on those guys either. So half the team will be here next year. Including the entire core. So a FA would base their choice on guys like Lee, Gallo, Chandler playing well enough to carry us into the playoffs.
