*-my theory on why we aren't drilling oil is so we can horde it as other countries finally run out of easily retrievable reserves. So we sit here and wait. Then when the big countries go dry we open up Alaska and rape those countries blind on imports - just how we've allowed the Middle East to rape us. Difference is once we're the only ones with a big reserve, we are going to rape them like no other. Problem is that doesn't help us because we'll all be dead before that happens.
Totally agree on your theory... Who gives a **** what we pay in oil now, when the world degenerates into Mad Max, and we control the entire supply?
As for the above the ---, well, I partially agree. It definitely isn't rocket science and Sun Tzu said in the Art of War, basically, that you can spend internally, or externally, but not both. Meaning: you can spend on education, infrastructure, social programming or on waging wars and extending your spheres of influence.
I would much prefer to walk off and spend internally, because we need it. That said, the effects could be devastating, so it likely is in our best interest to go without and gradually withdraw, and reallocate that money internally.
