I keep seeing different dates thrown around about his free agency but i just have to know once and for all, can he be a FA in 2011 or not? Everything i've seen says he cant opt out until 2012 but so many people, even reporters talk about how we can make a run for him in 2011 if we strike out in 2010. It was even mentioned in the nypost today. Does he have some sort of opt out in 2011 that i am missing? Thanks for your help.

Here's the piece from today's article.

There is an excellent chance none of these guys will be here next season. Also, that a Knicks jackpot this summer of LeBron James or Dwyane Wade would have made Jennings no long-term fit. If the Knicks strike out on the biggest prizes, their cap room might be best saved for Chris Paul in 2011.

Chris Paul's contract runs through 2013. The last year is a player option therefore the earliest we can sign him in summer 2012.

You should always include "from today's Berman article" when referencing a Berman article. I think, at this point, it would be considered a courtesy.

It was a 3 year extension with a 4th year player option. It was signed in 2008, but the extension did not begin until 2009 (this year). So, he is under contract for 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 with a player option for 2012/13

Ok i was pretty sure this was the case, i just don't understand why so many people believe he's a FA in 2011. And this actually isn't a Berman article either, making it more odd.

i'm guessing the people who mention 2011 are aiming at trade scenarios... i dunno what the Knicks could possibly offer up for CP3 tho, they must be buggin.

If Knicks preserve their cap space, they can offer instant cap relief + JJ/Curry's expiring contracts and absorb NOH's long-term contracts like Okafor or Stojakovic, which the Hornets will certainly want to do if they're getting rid of Chris Paul. No other team will really be in a situation to take on that much additional salary while saving NOH that much money. We can also throw in future firsts and youth like Hill or Douglas. It's pretty much the Marbury trade Part II, but for a more legitimate superstar.

Of course, that all depends on Paul demanding out of NOH in 2011, which could happen if NOH dovetails again and misses the playoffs.

i think u'r buggin... even if u threw in Gallo, Hill, Douglas & a future unprotected pick, i still don't think NOH would make that deal... only way would be if Gallo emerges next season as a legitimate star

On the spurs game they mentioned briefly there were rumors about Parker for Paul, anyone else heard anything about this? Would hate to see him got to SA probably make him unavailable even in 2012.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!
