A basketball source has confirmed that Michael Redd suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee on Sunday night in Los Angeles. The injury will sideline the Bucks shooting guard for the rest of the season.

The injury is the same one that Redd suffered nearly one year ago, on Jan. 24 against Sacramento at the Bradley Center. He suffered a torn ACL and torn MCL on that night and was lost for the rest of the season.

On Sunday, Redd planted on his left foot as he made a move in the lane during the Bucks' 95-77 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. He immediately was helped off the court.

Redd had a magnetic resonance imaging exam done in Phoenix on Monday, and the test revealed the ligament tears.

The 30-year-old Redd has been plagued by injuries in recent years. He missed the final 35 games of last season after being injured, and he was out for 16 games earlier this season due to a left patella tendon strain.

Redd has one year remaining on the six-year, $91 million contract he signed with the Bucks in the summer of 2005. The final year of the deal is a player option worth $18 million.

These ACL/MCL injuries that happen in the same knee to the same guy over and over are real tough. Players should take a whole year off like they used to. Instead they come back too early and hurt themselves again. Bender took 4 years off. Bernard King took almost two years off. Allan Houston took years off before attempting his comeback. Grant Hill was out for more than a year as well. These guys sat out for a couple years and when they came back they didn't get hurt again. Of the other hand you got guys who come back too soon where they may not be fully healed like a McDyess, an Oden, etc..
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

How do you get the same injury twice inside a year?

And here's a link to the story.

Jennings is probably licking his lips.

I dont see them making the playoffs now unless Jennings stays hot the rest of the season. So that makes one less team in the race for the 7th and 8th seed.

lol... still remember those threads people were saying let's trade for him after we got Zach... those 2 were gonna bring us to the promised land.

Redd not playing > Jefferies + Curry

gonna have to disagree w/u on that one... at least Fishlips is giving us something, not much but something... Redd wouldn't be giving us anything not playing & his contract is on the books for just as much as Fishlips & Curry's contracts combined.

This is most likely it for Redd. Same knee, multiple ligaments, 30 years old. Even if he comes back, he will just never be the same. And he will be inclined to protect the knee, which will hurt his game, and may even cause him to injure the other knee by compensating.

Really sucks for him. Bummer.

Jeffries is pretty much earning his money right now, but we're not talking about Redd being a substitution for Jeffries/Curry, but putting his deal on top of the others. How would you love that?

When is Redd not hurt? That whole Bucks team is a walking injury ward. Bogut and Redd cannot stay healthy.

I feel his pain. I played for a couple of years after my ACL reconstruction and it was tough on D. Lateral movement really never gets all the way back to full confidence, especially at his age in the NBA. And to have to rehab an ACL plus MCL in the same knee after just doing an ACL rehab. Forget it. He's toast.
