A while ago there was a thread when Curry wanted a buyout/trade/waive.

In the Roko waiving with the Bucks it seems Roko decided to waive his salary next season-he had a PO.

I just wanted to follow up on this because I know guys had questions about waiving Curry but I wasn't sure if there was a definitive answer (the search feature works great BTW).

As I understand it, even if you waive a player, you can't waive the contract. Whatever deal the Knicks work out with Curry doesn't affect the cap space that's used up by his current contract. I'm not completely sure about this, but that's the way I remember it.

I believe that the amount of the buyout counts against the cap. So if you buy out a player for 2M less than the contract calls for, you save 2M in space....but I'm not 100% certain.

There was a article or blog a while back that explored the situation. I'll see if I can find it.

roko didn't like playing in the US so he secured a deal in turkey and asked for a buyout.

Eddy has a player option. He would have to opt out of it. He won't, its big money.

He can negotiate a buy out AFTER and the thinking is he could sign else where for 2 mil. The rest would be on our books, so we can save 2 mil. 2 mil here and there does add up, but you don't get much for it.
