Could Blake land in NY?

Steve Blake | Trail Blazers
Top Email

Last month, ESPN's Chad Ford reported Steve Blake was being dangled by the Trail Blazers. And yesterday in his chat, he still believes Blake could be the one dealt out of Portland: "So many players are injured, the value isn't high on many of them. I think if someone gets moved it will be Steve Blake."

So what's a possible destination for Blake? How about the Knicks? Since the team doesn't have a first-round pick this year and Mike D'Antoni is still searching for a point guard to run his system, Blake could come in and be a decent option for him. The Blazers are lacking size with Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla out for the year, and the Knicks are looking to shop Jared Jeffries. Jeffries is making $6 million this year while Blake is making $4 million, so the Blazers may have to add in another player.ESPN

Now....ESPN Trade Machine says Nate and Jefferies for Blake, Bayless, and Outlaw work. I would happily throw in $3 mil to make it work.

Blake is an expiring contract so this one doesn't really make sense... if he'd said Bayless i can see the logic.

Dude, that's a very generous offer. Didn't know you had that kind of cash to throw around.

Blake as an expiring fits Walsh's MO- he could end up resigned instead of Duhon and be cheaper- and getting rid of JJ?

Why would Portland trade an expiring Blake for Jeffries? Why would anyone trade an expiring contract for Jeffries?

to get rid of Fishlips hell yeah i make this deal... i'm just saying the thing about us not having a 1st round pick didn't make sense to me cuz Blake's an expiring anyway... we can just sign him in free agency.

Personally I think Nash would be a great PG for MikeD.

**DISCLAIMER, I AM NOT ABOUT TO SAY STEVE BLAKE IS AS GOOD AS STEVE NASH, PLEASE DO NOT INTERPRET IT THAT WAY**

I think Blake could be a mini version of Nash. He isn't as good of an athlete, but he is the same size and he's probably a better ball handler and defender but nowhere near the same offensive threat. He's a career 39% 3pt shooter which is pretty good and I think he could probably give us 13-14pts 9apg here in MikeD's system.

I'm all for it.

Daaaaaang. I cant believe how silly nyk4ever is for thinking Blake is superior to Nash. Must not have taken his meds.

whether he is or isnt is to be decided, if portland wants to deal blake for jeffries i do that trade in a millisecond. it is an absolute on brainer.

You do the deal because of the longterm implications, but I honestly think the hypotherical trade hurts the team this year. Say what you want about JJ over the course of his tenure here, but this year he plays a rather vital role for this team. I think has him playing exactly to his strengths. For his glaring weaknesses he also has some pretty noticeable strengths. Those strengths really augment the club. His defense helps on positions 1-5. For a historically defesively-challenged unit, the team is playing its best defense in quite some time. JJ anchors that.

I do the deal in a millisecond too because of the long term benefits but I really do not think it is a nobrainer regarding this season--and I never thought I'd say that about Ared Effries.

I love how this looks we gotta get it done. Steve Blake, he can dish and swish, he's a true point guard and a savvy veteran leader, definitely a mini nash, or nash lite, mda can make him into a near-all-star. maybe he can run point for lebron.

I like what Fishlips is bringing this year, but if we can make this trade we can get Lebron AND Bosh this summer. While I am high on Lee atm, I am pretty sure Bosh would make getting Lebron in here a done deal I think. Whatever, it gives Donnie flexibility for getting Lebron on board. It would set us up perfectly for this summer.

I love the idea of Blake. His skills really do resemble Nash somewhat and he is a nice PG next to a dominant wing player. Obviously for JJ that would be a steal because not only do we get rid of his contract but we add a player who fits and could actually be part of the future moving forward. Hopefully we can sign LeBron, resign Lee, then have some remaining money to offer either a pg like blake or a center like camby a contract in the 4 million dollar range. If Douglas develops and we find another solid backup you go with a center. If you feel Lee, Gallo, Chandler, and LeBron are good enough defensively as 1-4s, you get a pg like Blake. I also think, believe it or not, Channing Frye is a possiblility to sign this summer. I'm sure MDA would love him and him and Lee might be the ideal 4-5 combo for his offense.

I love this trade idea Joec. Brandon Roy and Nate are good friends, Nate has shown he can still play, if not get along with D'Antoni. Bayless and Blake help in the backcourt. Would Portland take on Jeffries, if they want Nate because their All-Star wants him there? Maybe yes.

Special Nate with a tough ass coach like Nate McMillon might not fly. Coach McMillon is old school tough.
