A little premature, but bare with me for a second.

By all accounts, Yi Jianlian is playing some quality ball since jumping back into the line up. In fact, he seems to be getting similar numbers to what Gallo has been putting up. Just like Gallo, he seems to have recently started to become more aggressive and drive to the hoop more.

The more I think of it, they are both very similar players.

Yi Jianlian
PPG 15.3
RPG 7.3
APG 0.3
SPG 0.7
BPG 0.7
FG% 0.481
FT% 0.853
3P% 0.400
MPG 32.4

Gallo
PPG 14.5
RPG 4.9
APG 1.6
SPG 0.9
BPG 0.9
FG% 0.419
FT% 0.800
3P% 0.397
MPG 30.3

I am certainly looking forward to seeing the two of them match up against one another on Wed. night. Will they end up matched against one another?

What is the consensus of the comparison between the two? Who will have the better game? Who is the better long term prospect?

I think the answer has to be Gallo because of his better defense, shot blocking and play making / passing abilities which I have not seen in Yi's game.

There is one difference you missed-- Yi, for all we know, could be well into his 30s at this point.

impossible to evaluate anyone on that team. I dont ever remember seeing such a wretched display of BB. The gods will punish them with the 4th pick in the draft

yi can shoot and that's it, gallo is proving to be a complete player who creates for others. gallo is so superior to Yi, it's not even kinda funny.

check out this quote from the newark star ledger this morning:

Any NBA scout will tell you that Yi has poor instincts ("I’d say nonexistent," one says), and most wonder whether he will ever develop in that area.
Any NBA scout will tell you that Yi’s assist total this season — two, in 184 minutes — is pretty much what they have come to expect from him.
And any NBA scout will bet his check that in two crucial areas — defensive tenacity and overall basketball IQ — the athletic 22-year-old may never be the starting-quality player the Nets hope he will become.
Those are tough conclusions to reach for a player who has missed months at a time in each of his first three seasons, or one who has missed literally 32 percent of his teams’ games since entering the NBA.

the one and only concern with Gallo is whether or not his back becomes an issue as his career develops. This guy is going to be a bigtime player in this league for many many years to come. The Detlef comparisons are really good. Maybe a tougher but less athletic Odom... hard to say. Maybe a rich man's Turkoglu (he's already better)

close thread.

Yi has actually looked like a different player since he came back. Gallo will end up being a better facilitator with the ball, and his overall D will be better, but something has clicked inside of Yi's head, and he is playing much better ball. Good size, good shot, and he has some brains. I'm actually rooting for him to do well.

By the way, I figure that he is between 24-27 at this point in time, but who knows.

add Patrick Patterson & Damion James to that list, both will be excellent players in the NBA.

I think the answer has to be Gallo because of his better defense, shot blocking and play making / passing abilities which I have not seen in Yi's game.

i think it's an interesting comparison... Yi seems to be the more athletic of the 2, uses his length to grab rebounds pretty well but he doesn't seem to have the instincts that Gallo has on the floor... they're both comparable shooters percentage wise but Gallo takes a lot more attempts from 3 pt range which brings down his average somewhat... Gallo is a better passer than Yi is & plays better defense... Gallo seems to play with more of a chip on his shoulder than Yi also, who is a lot more timid... both guys are full of talent, but i'd rather have Gallo at this point... 21 year olds w/his level of maturity & his talent don't grow on trees... wouldn't complain if we had Yi on this team either tho, i think he's gonna be a nice player for a number of years.
